Zabiela - Pronounciation

No, that's not his new track

Anywayz, time for me to make a stupid n00bish question:

How the fuck do you say Zabiela?

The "Italian" way rhyming with Mozarella. (Zabi-Ella)
The "English" way rhyming with Tequila. (za-biiiiiila)

thanks a lot

Posted by fitom tiel on Oct-20-2003 18:33:

hm

ella

Posted by Slylee on Oct-20-2003 18:40:

i always pronounced it as "zuh-beel-ya"

Posted by DaveSZ on Oct-20-2003 18:42:

It sounds spanish to me, but I could be wrong.

In that case it's:

sah bee ye lah

(the way Annie pronounced it)

Posted by mikefasssy on Oct-20-2003 18:46:

I say

za-bella

But that might be because I am english, and have never bothered to expand my horizons language wise.

almost, if it's spanish anyways, the two vowels after the b form a dipthong so one of them isn't pronounced fully (drowned out by the strength of the other vowel) So, if it's spanish (it doesn't look spanish to me tbh).

Sah BEE-eh lah

you got it, dipthong and everything;
except, on the wrong syllable.

Sah bee-EH lah

He is from a European country so it isn't Spanish.
I've always said Za-Be-La.

just get his essential mix and u will listen how it sounds :P

Posted by Inertia on Oct-20-2003 20:08:

spanish being my native language, i pronounce it
ZA-BEE-EH-LA

but pete tong says something to the extent of ZA-BEE-LEE-AH
on radio 1 for the essential mix, so who knows.

and zabiela is from UK as far as i know (i think i read it somewhere
and he had a british accent when i talked to him when he spun here.)

who's that moron? reggaeton comes from dancehall reggae and hip hop, it doesn't have ANYTHING to do with house or pop.

Zabeela

Posted by monoxide on Oct-21-2003 14:36:

nope - NONE of you were right.... and won't be... russians could pronounce it just right! as zabiela is very common nick in lithuania for ppl of russian nationality (trust me, it has nothing to do with djing nor music), it's very easy to say "zabiela" for me... but as far as i communicated with english speaking ppl, i know very well that 2 "things" they CAN't pronounce are: latin letter "R" (it's so damn easy) and "ie" (NONE english-speaking person will pronounce it right!)

Don't look for Pete Tong for proper pronunciation, he spent an entire 2 hour essential mix trying to figure out how to pronounce "Columbiahalle" during the Love From Above 2002. Can't blame him though, he never had the good fortune of being born in germany

Anyways, why doesn't somebody grab a hold of him (Zabiela) sometime after a gig and during an interview ask the man himself?

Posted by Icesotope on Oct-22-2003 03:00:

hmm i was just listening th Network 25 - Por La Bateria

The vocals sound so much like this topic. So i just tag along "Porlarrr Bateeliaaa!!"
Ramirez style
