Question Best Headphones!

OK lets get to the point just say it
I don't want a long ass thread w/o names

So what are the best headphones ? HDJ 1000?

Posted by Kiragan on Oct-21-2003 14:03:

I recently went to a local Guitar Center, and they let me try out all the different headphones I wanted. I suggest everyone do the same if they can. Here is my opinion of each of the phones I tried out:

Sony MDR-V600 - (these are what I currently have, so it was more for comparison) good external noise reduction, very comfortable, good sound quality
Sennheiser HD280 Pro - best noise reduction, pretty comfortable, good sound quality
Technics RP-1200 - cups don't cover ears, bad noise reduction, good sound
Sony MDR-V700DJ - good noise reduction, comfortable, great sound, but they do seem a little flimsy, so I can see how they would break (as is well-documented all over the internet)
Pioneer HDJ-1000 - good noise reduction, comfortable, great sound... I'll probably buy these if I can find a good deal.

Hope that helps ya.

if you can, check out the Sennheiser HD-25 headphones (not the HD-25SP's). these have incredible sound, grip your head really well and block out all noise. also, they have a fairly long cord which goes into only one of the ears, so it can't get tangled. I've owned quite a few pairs of cans, these are *easily* the best and are really durable. oh, and they're modular, so if a part breaks, you don't need a whole new pair, just order the part and you're set.

edit:
no longer available at www.etronics.com, sorry about that.

if your going for open air sytle... the best in the world for trance and such would either be the grado rs-1 or the grado/alessandro music series pro. the latter is a little more analytical. but those are $700 each. in the under $700 catagory i go for the music series 2's (even more analytical with less soundstage and detail.. but only $300) and the beyerdynamic dt880. it have read the dt880 sounds better than the hd650... but that is with the original cord on the hd650... but the dt880 only cost $245 wile the hd650 cost $380 or so even without the upgrade cord. the only problem with the dt880 is that without a decent amount of power coming from the headphone jack (the meier audio prehead amp is great for this from what i read) the dt880 just will sound like crap. the numbers don't even begin to tell the story of the dt880's hunger for power. from what i read at least

I don't want to say this again, but the Sony MDR-V600 is the WORST-sounding headphone in the $50-$100 price range that I've ever heard - in fact, it's one of the very worst-sounding 'phones in this price range on the market. The bass is almost nonexistent, and all of the sounds coming out of that 'phone are nearly buried in one big, steaming, muddy and unpleasantly echoey pile of lower-midrange mess. And yeah, this happens no matter which piece of equipment that I've tried that 'phone on.

I'd stay away from the MDR-V600 - and the MDR-V700DJ, as well. The latter is simply WAY overrated, and WAY too expensive for the surprisingly mediocre sound quality that the MDR-V700DJ delivers.

HDJ1000s are all ya need

Posted by joeh on Oct-22-2003 02:50:

I've tried many headphones.

It's all about the HD-25's (notsp)

Easily the best. They wont break either... and if you manage to crush them with repeated hammer shots or something, all the parts are replaceable.

I think most "decent" DJ headphones have this feature

true, but many higher-end headphones which aren't necessarily for DJ use have dual-ear cords. I guess most of the phones ppl would mention here would have single-ear cords, but I'd hate to see someone spend a mint on a pair and have them tangled all the time

concerning the price of the HD-25's, I've currently found them for $200.00US at buy.com:

http://www.buy.com/retail/electroni...u=90100890&loc=

etronics.com used to sell them for ~$150.00, but apparently they no long stock them.

found a valid coupon to use on the headphones from buy.com, it'll give you $15.00 off $200.00:

just scroll down to the buy.com section and click on the coupon link

They won't!

the best places for phones usually ends up being

djmart.com
meier audio (just type that into the yahoo search)
headphone.com
audiocubes.com
toddthevinyljunkie.com

the best price for a phone varies form site to site

the best places for amps are (that i've found)
headphone.com
meier audio (their own very good brand)
headphone.com
headsave.com
jmtaudio.com
tangentsoft.net

and i think that's it

oh.. and look into the k271 stuido and the ultrasone models. ultrasone can be bought on meier audio.

and how do the hdj1000 sound (they're the pioneer, right?) do they have that inflated midd bass like the v700 (by the way.. v700.. everything i read.. eeeeewwwww!!! go to headwize.com and head-fi.org!)

Posted by m0sh on Oct-24-2003 13:36:

blah I can't find a place in NY that I can buy Sennheiser - HD-25

Posted by MERTON on Oct-24-2003 19:00:

GO TO MEIER AUDIO!!! IT HAS FREE SHIPPING!!

Posted by sebjr on Oct-25-2003 02:03:

my experiences:

hdj 1000 - these are what i use. reasonably comfortable, but tight fitting. good noise reduction. good sound quality but bass is too heavy. cord often gets tangled. also had problems with the cord being broken and thus stereo being broke (had to order a new one).

technics 1200s - from when ive used these, very comfortable, nice flat sound response, bass isnt over powering. sound quality isnt as good as pioneers.

hd25's - best sound quality and flattest clearest sound response...perfect really. kind of weird to use as they dont feel like typical headphones, very lightweight and flimsy feeling, although they are actually very strong.

if i was going to buy new ones, id probably go for hd25's or technics...

The problam is where can I get them in NY usa

Posted by Marius L. on Oct-25-2003 19:10:

What about AKG???

Are there any DJ model's???

Posted by Gluegun on Oct-26-2003 00:21:

There are lots of models that are great...

FYI, I'm biased towards "accurate-sounding", studio-ish headphones... gotta have my accuracy and sound quality!

Some headphones I'd consider buying are...

Sony MDR-V6
Sony MDR-7506
AKG K271 Studio
Sennheiser HD280 Pro
Sennheiser HD25

Posted by m0sh on Oct-26-2003 13:44:

Cuz I can't find a store in NY that got HD 25

I think I'm gonna go on Technics RP DJ 1210

Posted by MERTON on Oct-27-2003 19:45:

that was the cheapest the hd25 gets. your too poor for good sound (j/k)
