any TAs in the military?
The reason I was asking is because I have signed a 3-year contract with Canadian Army in the summer, and have long done all tests and such and will be called up sometime in January for regular forces work (full-time). I chose two positions I am hoping to do after the 3-month basic training (YIKES! = BOOT CAMP) : A) Driver B) Medical Assistant.
Anyone here have opinions about military? Anyone been to military or is planning to go the army / has to go soon? Post your thoughts ...
If you are a TA that is not from Canada or will not be going to / never went to Canadian Army but someplace else, post here also please! ....
neat. good luck
Well, thanks for support cause I'll need all the luck I can get
To be honest about it, I never wanted to go to the army in the first place, but my parents will kick me out soon anyway though I am 19 and with a diploma and may be able to get into a college, but I hate taking loans, so I will let the army pay for that afterwards, as I have that benefit ... Anyhow the army will make me tougher, build a character, make my pockets bigger and will look great on my resume
my boyfriend is in the (US) army...his ta name is stringfelowhawk. he could def give you some advice on it, im not too thrilled about him being in it- the distance really sucks!

good for you i like your attitude.
you from russia originally?
I am Russian !
Yes, I am Russian indeed. All men in my family line were in the military. My father fought in the famous Afghanistan War 1979-1989 against mujahideen. He lived through many horrors and lost friends. But the Soviet government was also retarded. My dad came out of the army with almost no teeth, thats how awful nutrition was. My grand-grandfather fought and died in World War II against the Nazi invasion, the grandpa before that volunteered for World War I and survived it, and grandpa before that was in the navy fighting Japanese in the Russo-Japanese war. Big history, eh? I hope to change that by not fighting in a war.
wow thats interesting.
if you dont want to fight a war (unless there is WW4), but get equal training join the reserves instead
Too Late!
Originally I wanted to go reserves, but the pressure from my parents got me good, and I signed a contract for regular forces. It's only 3 years anyhow ... Too bad I will be away from TA.com forums for most of that period ......

Dmatrox, what country are you from anyhow? If its not a secret?
ya, its not secret, im from calgary, alberta. Born and raised here, but not caucasian.
Uh oh .. just thought of something ....
I just realised that the 3-year or maybe longer stay in the army will very likely result in me missing out on a lot of trance, as I wont be able to make constant visits to TA forums .... that will be so bad ... I hope trance wont be dead or altered beyond recognition when I will return .....
i am currently waiting for the army to call me back and give me my shipping date. im going in to fly helicopters woohoo! untill then i get to be unemployed and lazy EVEN BETTER!
Will probably end up joining reserves after xmas because I am too lazy to go find a better job than what I have now.
3 of the more prominent TAs in the army/airforce etc are ABTsportsline and his wife URDreamgurl(robbie and faye)
They are americans, and last I heard, were stationed in Germany somewhere
and LuckyStrike, hes doing his Mandatory service for the Israeli army I believe.
Well i know how you feel i leave for boot july 12 quite a bit aways but i have time to train but USMC baby boots 3 months here too im gonna get worked hardcore but it will straiten me out
I am worried ..... Ugh
The thing is, I am ... well, a skinny person with not much space to build muscle on, and for the Canadian Army you have to be able to meet the minimal physical requirements to get in. They're not hard, but constant physical work that involves at least the minimal physical requirements might wear me out at times. My endurance is just awful. I have to be able to do at least 19 consecutive pushups (not bad), at least 19 sit-ups in a minute (a joke, I can do 42 in a minute, lol), do 6 full chin-ups consecutive (I do 8-10), and run 2.4 km in less than 12 minutes, WHICH I CANNOT DO. I most of the time run 2.4 km in around 12:25-12:45 and never made it under 12 minutes. So dam hard. I can run 5 km though, so thats fine with me. Also maybe the worst thing in the regular forces is that I get to get to sleep only 6 hours, from 11 PM to 5 AM. THATS HORRIBLE .....
I have been going to Premier Fitness regularly since May of this year, so I am keeping up and improving my physical state, but a 3-month basic training is beyond my imagination ... I need a miracle ....
Not yet, but in January.. :/
I hear you man im probly gonna be doing the same thing, i was born in calgary alberta canada so i have a canadian citizenship then i came to brazil and got my brazilian citizenship, in brazil its manditory that you do military work but its only for like a year or something, so what ill probly be doing is the brazilian army then go back up to canada and do the canadian one to get my university paid. only problem is mixing in brazil i know ill be able to keep it up but in canada i probly wont be let out on a constant bases or given a hour a night to practice, oh well
i know lots of people who get school paid for my the armed forces AS they go... that means you work for them AFTER you're done school.. you should try that option (kinda late though...) you don't even have to go to RMC (royal military college in kingston), i think you can cut a deal to go to any school, provided you join the army after... i think the deal at RMC is that you get free school, and you have to work in the army for 3 years (not sure of the exact figure) as an officer when you graduate... not such a bad deal, =P
