it doesn't use the motor from a turntable to spin the cd. a cd spins about 10 times faster then a turntable does. it would be an unbelievable waste of money to put a 1210 motor in there. not only would it cost a lot more but to would make the whole unit bigger then it would need to be. the sound doesn't play directly off of a cd. a cd track is just a .wav file on a specially formated disc. the "sound" from a cd plays after it's buffered and decoded so the motor doesn't affect the sound quality or the speed of the sound. now it could be possible that they used a 1210 motor to turn the "platter" that allows you to control the track like it's a piece of vinyl. now that would be cool because it would actually feel like a 1200 platter. cheers.

Exactly, I believe it spins the platter. It'd be nonsense to spin the CD

They aren't released officially yet. The units you see in the video are still prototypes. So no reviews yet.

they look very promosing but i aint ganna buy them for 3000 usd! thats way to much! even when it plays mp3's

Posted by punchline on Oct-24-2003 08:33:

Well now, one person says the reported price is around 799GBP and another says 3000USD for each. I don't claim to be a whiz at currency exchange rates but I know that those two prices are nowhere close to each other. Which one is it?

I'm inclined to believe the first price because that would place them at a little bit more expensive than the CDJ-1000 MK2s, and I find it hard to believe that Technics would expect to sell a lot of these at 3000 a piece.

Does anybody have any links to back up one of these prices? They really do look nice.

799 British Pound = 1,354.07 US Dollar

according to http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic

not as bad as $3000
maybe you heard $3000 quoted for a pair

i want a pair of those soooooooooooooo badly
but i'm not shellnig out that much money for them
looks like it will be pioneers for me.
i hope the price of them drops soon too.

Posted by DeleriuM2K on Oct-24-2003 17:31:

they look frackin sweet.... direct drive cd deck? beautiful

I wanna a pair of those against my Denon S5000's

Posted by Ben Sherman on Oct-24-2003 19:40:

my price is a quote from the customer service dept of sapphire www.decks.co.uk, probably the cheapest place for equipment in the uk

Posted by sektile on Oct-25-2003 00:17:

i honestly doubt technics would go put out there new cdj's for $3000 US, translated to AU currency, thats over $6000AU, one technics turntable over here is ~$700AU, and the pioneer/denon cdjs ~$1500AU

thats a little overpriced eh :P

Posted by DR86 on Oct-25-2003 04:22:

Redeye said that they were going for 3000 USD in Japan in the NYC Forum, ask him about it!

Posted by Energized on Oct-25-2003 07:55:

Japanese products go for cheaper outside Japan for competition purposes. (example : Sony products) So we can't expect the tecnics cdj to be ~$3000 if that's what they are sold for in Japan.

Posted by punchline on Oct-27-2003 01:12:

audiolines.com has them listed at $999.95 so I guess that shoots the 3000 out of the water.

http://www.audiolines.com/cgi-bin/d...=techcdplayer_2

It's pretty reasonable at that price.
