what got you into trance?
i want to know what song got you into the whole dance/trance thing! For me it was songs off the radio. they had nice dance beats. i know i dont like dance crap any more cause i like trance 100 times better. but for me dance was a great way to learn what trance music was. for example nightcrawler- push the limit. seriously was the one that lead me into the trance scene! I know you guys used to dig dance remixes and stuff like that! i just wanna know. thanks amit
I am a Classical music fan. one day I discovered the Orbit/Corsten version of Adagio on Napster. by accident. I became a trance fan.
now it's just a lot of electronic music in general, Aphex Twin being the most recent ... hard to find new stuff where I am which makes this fourm invaluable.
I pretty much stumbled upon trance on the internet and became hooked...amazing how hearing just a few songs can turn you completely on to a kind of music but trance has that power.
The Vengaboys and Alice Deejay got me hooked
LOL
sad but true
I started going to parties about 4 yrs. ago w/ a friend of mine and originally was hooked on Drum and Bass. I had never listened to any electronic music (lotsa Grateful Dead, phish, Widespread Panic etc...)before and heard Aphrodite at my first party and was hooked. So for a couple years I kind of stayed in the "jungle room" at parties, partly b/c I really liked Jungle and partly to keep from having to dodge glo-stix. Then about 2 yrs. ago I went to see Digweed and although I never really listen to his type stuff anymore, I was definitely turned away from the DnB and have been trancin' out ever since.
Friend's CD, had some Antiloop stuff on there. From there I searched for Antiloop stuff on the net and came across trance.
my lil' story =O]
Big up to Radio 1 who introduced me to the whole dance scene..after living in Europe for 15 years and then moving over to Canada I kinda thought that dance scene is pretty dead here comparing to Europe so I started listening to dance radio stations over the internet and especially Radio 1. Seriously, first off Judge Jules shows, respekt to him I remember him spinning DJ Journeyman - The Journey which I thought was quite a nice tune that got me hooked and delerium - silence (airscape mix). The ESSENTIAL MIXES by PvD and many other djs and then I got all the trance energy 2000 sets and completely realized this was definately the type of music that I like.
Peace out.
well.... i started sufring the net for trance
then i saw this show here in israel called eora 2000....
it was about trance, drugs and shit, first time i saw paul oakenfold on tv.... really got me into it
The uplifting nature of the music of course!
Halcyon on and on - Orbital
I was hooked the day I heard it... But the music didn't mean much until I heard "9pm Till I come" (ya ya.. but that guitar riff is soo cool) on new years in Thailand..
cFs
I dunno, I guess I was always kinda interested in electronic music. I remember back in 93 or summit (when I was about 10 I guess) I used to listen to this electronic music program on Monday nights between 10pm and 12pm (when my parents thought I was sleeping). It wasn't a commercial one either, it was on one of the alternative stations here (102.7 for Melbourne peeps) and they played some pretty advanced stuff I guess. Can't remember how I started listening to it, but that's where I found out about acts like Ultrasonic (yeah I know
) and so on.
As for trance in particular? Well It would've probably been from my early clubbing days like back in 96/97. So we're talking stuff like Delegate - Want You To Stay and CM - Dream Universe. But I do remember back in 95 or 96 or something, walking into a record store where they had Legend B - Lost In Love playing, and I guess that's when I was hooked officially, and that's what kicked the whole thing off (even though it took me about 6 months to find out the name of that bloody track!).
Yes yes!!
Another orbital fan, yay! I was very into orbital at first, and halycon was the transition track. Also, back in '98 they started playing diggers and oakenfold on this underground radio station in wash dc...that's how I got hooked, and then I saw PvD live, and got completely obsessed.
i got into trance since i watched for first time Adagio For Strings (Corsten Remix)video... it really impressed me... then i started searchin' Orbit & Corsten's music... then i found ATB (my fav. artist), Picotto, Jean, Quicksilver, etc...
my friend showed me his new rave mission cd around 7 years ago.
I loved the style for about a year then phased out -- then i discovered trance a few years later and now i am right into it! nothing is better.
i was driving home with my friend and he was blasting trance control-atomic dance explosion. that was the first tune i ever heard. been hooked ever since.
I used to listen rave/hardcore, but in 1998 my taste
changed.
One of my first favorite trance tracks is For an angel.
And the first set I heard was PVD@Mayday2000.
That's when I became interested in live sets.
BTW, here is a new "smile":
The first time I heard Underworld's "Born Slippy" I was hooked. The part where it breaks down gave me the chills... and I felt that I understood the music better. From there... it was hard, until the internet really started to grow. Now... most of us have music months before it's release...
I remember ages ago, it must have been 94' I heard some electronic music on the radio, radio one i think, late night stuff, i had no idea what it was, i'd never heard anything like it, all my questions about this musc went unaswered or lead to dead ends, and 95 passed by also with the occasional glimps of wonderful music on the radio which i always recorded 96 came and went similarly, but then 97 was the break, at a party i heard what i later found out to be born slippy, and curve - chinese burn, BT - Flaming June and many others i loved it, to me born slippy captured brilliantly the essence of something, the whole being of a night, the confusing blasting out of lyrics that seem to capture the moment and describe things so perfectly, i loved that tune. And Flaming June was just as great if not better, i can't describe what made me love that track so much, i just did, and still do. Ofcourse at the time I only knew that i loved what i was hearing, and that I didn't want it to stop but it did stop and i had no where to turn for more. It was only in 98 that i became truly aware of electronic music, in particular trance. Then as i bought and downloaded old trance i realised that a lot of these i'd heard ages ago. After Phat Planet and my purchase of leftfield i bought their old album, to find that 3 of the tracks i'd heard and loved years back. The same goes for my more recent infactuations with Orbital when buying their old stuff i'd heard so much of it.
1998 saw me truley entering trance with For an Angel, Binary Finary, the first vinyl i ever got.. and broke, BT - Godspeed, and more.
I remeber thumbing through Radio times looking for anything decribed as dance trance or mentioning DJ, and i recorded it all on tape. up till mid 2000 that was my level, loving the music. Then Pvd @ Mayday 2000 was the first live set i heard that wasn't on the radio and it was slightly different and i loved it even more. Since then my trance turned from love to true addiction, and now i'm saving my pennies to buy decks and mixer, and making a list of records from the 'Good ole days' that i have to get a hold of... it's at about 250 now... and i've been told that some of the stuff on there is quite rare, so i'm gonna end up shelling out a lot if i want them all...
Finally to bring my trancing days up to near enough present, i've become friends with my friends brother as a result of trance and discovered this site a short while ago, cause of a live set i downloaded in I-mesh, i saw www.tranceaddict.com in the about box and though, hey, this looks promising, and here i am rambling/remeniscing (what a difficult word!) endlessly about something you couldn't give a crap about. I'm too young to be nostalgic!

I've been into electronica for as long as I can remember. As for trance, Robert Miles - Children is what started it all for me. Damn him for this addiction
.
For my part, somebody on IRC putted in the channel topic this message:
Fire up napster and get Paul Van Dyk - Live at Mayday 2000
I did not even know who was Pvd
now he

Paul van Dyk - For An Angel. Everything started after this track...
I used to love Halcyon & on & on, ever since I heard it in that horrible yet fun movie Hackers. I listened to it religiously but didn't think there was a whole genre.
Then my friend gave me his DJ Tiesto - Live at Energy 2000 mp3 and I was hooked... to this day it's still my favorite liveset.
man i used to listen to dance alot! so i was into it. thats how the whole dance scene change for me! i respect everything of it. thats how it all started for me.
hmm, it was a collective of radio, tv and net.
in australia, u dun really get alot of trance stuff played on the air, but then came 99.3 (which is dead now) and they played this particular song.. verracoche - carte blanche
. i then started listening to that particular station more often and listen to cds like wildFM (hehe, i know)
then came alchemy, a music show which explored alot of music genres, but there was this particular clip from bexta, and her tune "non stop, lets rock" which made me want to listen to that type of stuff even more.
then i got my computer and the net (start of 99) and then started d;l the songs that i first heard... and it has continued ever since
me and my trance
