Official Review: Johan Gielen (Holland) @ Aria Friday October 24th 2003
What did you guys think?
Got there just as Gielen was going on. Didn't have to listen to any progg!!! OMG! :-)
There was some short skinny d00d bouncing around. He reminded me of a chimpanze, he was bouncing all over the place. He even had an arched back like he was a primate or something. I was pissed off at this clown because he wouldn't pick a spot! We are behind the DJ booth and this clown can't decide if he's comming or going.
It was funny watching Gielen get mad at the people on the riser. He specifically asked that no one go on the riser beside his decks, and people kept hoping up there. He would look at them in disgust, then look at we would simultaneously shake our heads. hahahaha
Alot of techno. More trance would have been preferred, but there was just enough to keep me satisfied. I wish he would have dropped more trance!!! The crowed loved it when he played trance, I don't think they wanted to hear this hard shit.
But highlight of the night was Chicane - Saltwater (The Thrillseekers Club mix 2003) OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! I wanted to hear that for the longest time in da club.
didnt had as much fun as other nights but i did enjoyed the music more than at armin for some reason. must be cause he played really hard trance
highlight for me was that new trancy remix of born slippy now i need to find it
and i remember that guy, he probably was packed on speed :P
I agree totally - he spun hard trance and never heard any happy trance.
Montreal likes it hard and fast.
Glad I saw him spin happy trance in Vancouver with Dumonde.

The night was pretty good even though I was half asleep. I liked the ending of Preach's set the most and Gielen was pleasing me with all the hard shit he was playing. By the way Mastercongo what was the song I wanted to know the name of, the one Zing put for preach and played in car with the nice vocals?

Well...as I expected, he played hard. In the begining, I thought I won't make it till 6am.!
finally stayed till 7:30. Gielen is crazy, I can compare him with Sven Vath. Although, I liked Armin's set more, Gielen dropped a few bombs that made this night one of the toughest for my legs
Some killer tracks, that you guys forgot to mention:
Transa- Supernova (rmx?)
PVD- for an angel (some really hard remix)
And the highlight of the night OMG, OMG
Chicane- Saltwater ( 2003 thrillsekers rmx) and of course As the rush comes!
It was a pretty good night....didnt expect him to play all that hard trance but I enjoyed that, but I did expect the techno. Some tunes that havent been said already:
Paul van Dyk - For an Angel (NU Nrg Remix)
David Forbes - Simpatico
Ron van den Beuken - Timeless (RVDB Remix)
Tiesto - Traffic (played the Max Walder Remix and sampled in the original, then flipped over one copy and played 2 originals at the same time, some crazy shit he pulled there)
Katana - Tribal Shock
Airscape - Sosei
Lost Tribe - Gamemaster 2003 (Matt Darey Remix)
Mark Norman - Overkill
Rank 1 - Breathing (Breaks Dub)
Three Drives - Air Traffic (Cor Fijneman Remix)
Marco V - C:\*del
Boss @ Nova - Stone Cold
Nalin & Kane - Beachball (G&D Remix)
and a 10 secont sample of Tiesto - Lethal Industry (was really pointless since you couldnt even hear it)
He didnt play the new Tomcraft, but I did see it in his record box. In fact I saw a shitload of sweet tracks but unfortunately he couldnt play them all. There was potential to be an awesome trance set, but he instead opted for the harder stuff.
Johan's reaction to Yaz's set was priceless, I dont think he really likes techno (or whatever it was Yaz was spinning).
But highlight of the night was Chicane - Saltwater (The Thrillseekers Club mix 2003) OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! I wanted to hear that for the longest time in da club.
I agree with you Buddy
i always wanted to hear that track
Drax & Sxott Mac - Angel (Katana Remix)
Lost Tribe Gamemaster 2003
Binary Finary-1998 - ( Ronski Speed remix )
Underworld - Born Slippy (Paul Oakenfold Remix)\
DJ Tiesto - Traffic (Original Mix)
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Armin van buuren Rmx)
For An Angel Paul van Dyke only played it for 15 sec maybe
Chicane - Saltwater (The Thrillseekers Club mix)
Indicator 2003 (marco v - indicator bootleg)
Dirty Bass - Emotional Soundscape
Three Drives - Air Traffic ( Johan Gielen Remix )
Johan Gielen - Beechbreeze ( dont what remix )
