[AXIS] Jger - tracne is techno

Turbonium - not really
Turbonium - techno and trance are both electronica
Turbonium - but trance is not techno

[AXIS] Jger - electronica is just a newer name for techno
[AXIS] Jger - and techno is a sub category of techno

Turbonium - u mean trance
Turbonium - but i still don't agree
Turbonium - i could post ur opinion on the boards and see what other tranceheads think

[AXIS] Jger - no trance is too
[AXIS] Jger - but techno is one category under techno

Turbonium - ok then
Turbonium - whatever u say
Turbonium - but don't go calling trance techno, cuz it's not even similar

[AXIS] Jger - haha
[AXIS] Jger - it is not

I especially like the part where he says "techno is a sub category of techno"...

lol, some people just don't understand. Trance is way different than techno.

Posted by Psygnosis on Oct-26-2003 05:37:

Doesn't matter, you can't blame him...

When i first ever heard electronica i kept calling it Techno for over 3 months until i realised what it was...

i called everything techno from commercial to trance...and didn't know the difference...let the newbies ear develop.

Posted by malek on Oct-26-2003 05:38:

well... trance does come from techno, and techno from house...

but nowadays, techno and trance are two different things, and people forget their history lessons

I get into that argument with a friend of mine in Ohio all the time. Eventually, I started yelling at him b/c I had gotten annoyed (eight months of getting it wrong was enough) and he finally corrected himself.

Posted by Turbonium on Oct-26-2003 05:40:

I know what you guys are saying, but here's the thing. This guy has been exposed to trance for some time. He has a polish friend who's into it, as well as me. He just surprised me with his comments.

Posted by squirrelly on Oct-26-2003 05:52:

Where are all these Polish people? I search, and find none. :/ grrr

Posted by whiskers on Oct-26-2003 06:06:

you know, i found out that when you try to educate people about this you end up looking like an arrogant smartass... cuz in the end you're like tearing your hair out: "no, it's NOT techno, you buttmunch" and yet they still don't understand and don't really care.

so i say one person more, one person less, who gives a shit?

Interesting thread, people. I was wondering; I am no expert on music genres, but I know what I like. Obviously Paul van Dyk, Tisto, Armin, etc, those guys are trance. I go a specific website to get tracklists when I can't find it here in TA. The artists/groups are all sorted according to genre. How accurate is it, would you guys say? Example: Underworld is classified as Techno. Is that right? Here's the link to the tracklist site: http://members1.chello.nl/~m.c.j.m.lieshout/tl/tl.html

Posted by Endlesswave on Oct-26-2003 22:46:

Naw, Underworld isn't techno. I'd classify Underworld as progressive.

Well, dude...Whatever genre Underworld is, be it techno or progressive, I dig their live shows Their albums, the ones with "Days off", they sounded....umm....weird....maybe I had to be wasted to understand the music or something.

Posted by noikeee on Oct-26-2003 22:53:

Underworld have quite an unique style. I'd qualify them as trance though.

Looks like the disease of ignorance has a good progress in this dude...

Interesting analysis dude. Makes me really wonder.

actually "electronica" is a style of electronic music similar to "leftfield". leftfield being the style not the producers. electronica falls under the ambient category. there are five main styles of electronic music. house (from chicago), trance (from britain/europe), techno (from detroit), breaks (no idea where it's from), and ambient (again, no clue as to it's origins). cheers.

Tell me something: house is in no way similar to trance soundwise, is it?

Wicked, but I was close, right? You know that one link to the "history of techno" site or whatever? With the black guys being interviewed and stuff, from Chicago and Detroit. Anyone have the site URL? I lost it.
