Rugby World Cup 2003

Whats ure opinions? Anyone watching this? I think England have got a really good chance of winning this time round. Although Australia may be a tough game.. Thank God we wont have to play them until the final after our win today!

Posted by Matty V on Oct-26-2003 13:23:

If england play like they did against the samoans we aint gunna get far

I dunno, it wasn't a disaster. We pulled through in the end, thanks to wilkinson and his kick to balshaw!! What a try that was!! And dont forget we already beaten all the best teams in the world over the last 2 years! Were in with a shout!

this tournament is a joke.

the biggest event in the rugby callander and i didn't even know where it was being held until scotland vs fiji.

the coverage is a disgrace, the quality of rugby is a disgrace and i reckon i could do better than everybody who is playing in the tournament. rugby is not what it used to be, this is why i no longer play, nor follow it.

aussie stadium, stadium australia...oh dear wherever could the world cup be?

you live in scotland, so im guessing youd only get scotish games or it would be on pay tv so hence poor coverage. following from that, if you only get scottish games then the quality of rugby would obviously suffer cause they are a very poor team. i mean they have the very large mobile forwards who hit like girls and lack any heart

to say you could do better than everybody who is playing in the tournament is stupid in itself so ill leave it there

of course rugby isnt what it used to be, players are fitter and stronger, the rules have changed quite a bit over the past decade and you've got to take into account that large scores are inevitable when a fully professional rugby nation takes on a semi-pro or amatuer nation (i.e. australia vs romania). i mean some of the georgians are farmers by day

the same can be said about soccer, i mean how the fuck did iran or israel (the team germany beat 9-0) make it into the world cup when teams like australia miss out (pardon me if im wrong)
the soccer world cup is getting alot closer now cause players are becoming professionals and experiencing football overseas in developed soccer nations

to call the rugby world cup a joke is your opinion granted, but the knockout stages are about to begin so expect some good rugby

To the scottish chap: you didn't recognise the Sydney 2000 Olympic stadium in any games ?

Anyhow, just because the coverage in your country may be bad, doesn't nesecarily mean it's shocking in other countries, although down here in vic we get them on late at night (I heard nsw etc are getting them live as well )

yeah we are gettin the weekend games live but we missed out on half of the pool matches
i need fox man cause they were playin every match live (unless 7 were broadcasting it) and then after every round they would replay them all in a row. also you get rugby from around the world all year round which is pretty wicked too

The world cup has been great, esp the last week of the pool games with England run close by Samoa, Ireland-Argentina and Ire-Australia being realy close, and the Wales display against NZ.

The coverage in England has been amazing with every game shown live, either on ITV (terestrial channel that every1 can watch) for most of the home countries and big games, and ITV2 (subscription channel) for the rest.

Still think England will win it but if we dont i think it will be France, though the outside bet is with Ireland!

I don't care if we're out of form, we've won two out of the last three. History is on our side

listen in all honesty rugby is a game for batty boys.

a bunch of over grown men rolling around in the mud touching each others balls

theres far too many rules to the game and far to few fights in it anymore. its lost all its intrest to me and not cos i'm scottish and we have a shite team. but because the game has become more predictable than rain in glasgow.

england get a penalty, jonny wilkinson kicks it.

that is northern hemisphere rugby...and australia is pretty dry too
in all honesty id rather they televised the world 7's tournaments more because they are fuckin brilliant to watch

i was reading the paper yesterday and gavin hastings had been interviewed. he believed that the current scottish team is the worst he has ever seen...ouch
they are going to get nailed tonight

Posted by chesco on Nov-08-2003 18:11:

i absolutely love playing and watching sevens, simply for the exitement.

another game which beats 15 a side is rugby league, you get those big hits every second tackle that you just don't find in the union game, its much faster and creates far more exitement to watch.

and just for the record, this is by far the worst rugby team scotland have ever entered in a world cup. the main reason is cos theres no money put into development of any sport here in scotland and its a fuckin joke.

Australia won, NZ won, who would have guessed

Will be interesting to see who wins in the semis (All blacks or Wallabies)

oh come on! The rugby world cup has been awesome. Im out in France at the moment and theyve had almost every game on. I cant wait til next weekend, England vs France! should be a big game.

All blacks vs the wallabies is coming up on Saturday arvo (Aussie time), i'm really hoping Australia can go all the way and win their third cup, but tbh I think NZ & France will be the finalists

I agree. Although england are up there with the best i cant see them beating france who are on form at the moment. I dont want them to win, but i can see them going all the way.

My preferred final = Australia v England
My prediction = New Zealend v France

Posted by slinkyhead on Nov-12-2003 23:44:

I'd love to see an Eng v Aus final

So we can destroy u pomm bashers for once

whats up with the Australian press laying into us English, u really don't like losing do you.

I personally think the winners will come from the Eng-Fra semi and im really not sure which way it will go.

As for Australia they just don't have the talent at the moment (Wendell Sailor is one of the worst players iv eva seen) and NZ havent sparkled yet. Both would need to be at the top of their game to beat either france or england

Which sections? (Print, tv etc). I haven't really noticed much pomie bashing actually, then again, mabye i just haven't been paying enough attention.

As for the talent point, I actually think we do, but we really aren't playging well enough atm, things just arent flowing. France are on fire, and NZ are clearly the best team in the world atm, in my humble opinion.

As for Sailor, careful . He was one of our absolute best league players, yet switched codes along with two of our other two back rowers to play with the wallabies. When he's on form, he actually is very good, but he hasn't really fired yet. Mabye he shouldn't have switched codes :/

Posted by slinkyhead on Nov-13-2003 18:14:

Sailor is fine on the attack but defending and catching, well that leaves alot to be desired i honestly think i cud catch beta than him.

I spose the talent is there in Australia and of course any team can now win it and i'd agree that France are the only team on form, Aus, NZ and Eng all havent peaked yet.

At the begining of the tournament i said England are the only team that can realistically beat NZ but several teams could beat England eg NZ, France, Australia. But know id say that France could beat NZ too. Im not sure if im making much sense, ah well. Its gonna be a good couple of this weekend tho

Yeah, his catching has been a bit off :/

Our entire back row is recently converted league players...not the best move imo.

I would love an eng vs. aus final, even a nz vs england would be interesting, but tbh, I think France will win it, they really are on fire. Hopefully Oz will be able to peak, but somehow I think France might have what it takes. Tommorow will be itneresting to say the least.

Just saw the Aus vs NZ Game - WHAT A MATCH!!!!! We played brilliant .. Mat Rogers only dropped the ball twice and got some good distance on his kicks, Wendell laid a good defensive tackle at the start of the game and didn't fuck-up throughout, tuquiri was great as per usual and STIRLING MORTLOCK - YOUUUUU BEAUTY!!! He had a killer interception for the first try that really set the stage for the rest of the game, and every time he got the ball he gained good metres .. they just can't seem to take him down ...
Our defence was impeccable, NZ just didn't have any options and King Carlos looked hell pissed off. Flatley's kicking was excellent, but most importantly OUR LINEOUTS! FUCK! We fucked up one at the most, not to mention stealing a few from the All Blacks ... Justin Harrison played great, and Steve Larkham kept driftin' thru the NZ defence .. cept his kicking sucked. Overall it was a great performance .. and thumbs up to the NZ skipper who was very nice at the end-of-game interview, who coped pretty well considering seeing as how bad the loss is for NZ..and not to mention its economy! Good Game!

Lets just hope they will be playing england in the final! What a match that would be!
