been on xvi since 2000, back when the ottawa club and rave scene was huge and flourishing (sort of), and honestly, XVI is cool, but did NOT help the scene expand. promoters started relying on it, new users got harrassed, djs caused alot of shit, and for a small city, it was just too much...everyone knew everyting. Remember Atomic, it was really cool cause the management were unknown; it was almost a mystery that place, but man was it wicked.
now people will have to go out instead of relying on the site.
i really think this will help ottawa. i know of a big party coming up that hasn't been announced on xvi, but i know its gonna do amazing, casue the flyers and posters are beautifull, and the promoters are wicked!
this is either going to be really good for ottawa or really bad for ottawa. people have started relying on xvi to find out about events, promote events, etc.
this is going to make people work harder to find out about and promote shows. will everyone make the effort, imo no!!
but as stated a newer version of xvi will be back up soon so we'll see how that pans out...
ya i think it will probably be very bad.. i hope they have backup this time.. and get rid of that star system where you had to pay to get status
but other than that its a shame to see xvi good down.. it was ottawas main support for their scene

initially, it may be bad
but the thing is, the scene in ottawa was much bigger before xvi came to be so popular. Its true that the rave scene has dwindled all over canada, but in other cities clubs are getting even bigger and better in terms of electronic dance music; house is pretty much mainstream now. However, in ottawa, that is not the case. The club scene has easily shrunk and i have been part of many discussions on xvi that debate whether xvi is a bane to the ottaw club scne...lots of veteran users think so.
i don't have exact stats, but at most parties and club event, xvi only accounts for abut 1/10 of the attendance. Promoters need to start doing things differently and let hype spread through word of mouth, street promo and their own websites and not rely on a website that is extremely disscouraging for new users. most of the 10,000 new university students that arrive in ottawa every fall probably think the scene here is full of asses, cause xvi is full of em....start a new account and ask about nightclubs and you'd get nothing but lame comments and inside joke insults.
Mind you, it was really wicked for some things like dj mixes...
too many negative post on XVI, this will help the scene.
