The question is "when?"
I wasn't into electronica back then, but apparently he imported goa to the UK in the mid-nineties (see A Voyage Into Trance). From there he shifted towards his trance golden era of 97-00, peaking at the Essential Mix World Tour. By 2000 he was suffering a commecial fall, bloated with success and taking the full brunt of the anti-trance backlash. Bunkka seemed an effort to hold onto fame by reaching out to the mainstream, but only sealed his fate for the next year or two as scene laughing stock. He's since shifted to a progressive, breaky style of trance that I'm not too fond of, but seems to be making a modest comeback.
tranceport 1998
bunkka 2002
i'd say his dj style is progressive trance ... altho he probably wouldnt want to be pigeon-holed to one style!
he still plays trance occasionally .. producing is another story however

Prior to 90's, Oakenfold was spinning house/funk. He also spun U.K. garage.
Oakenfold was GOA in mid 90's with "A Voyage Into Trance."
In 1998, the year he released "Tranceport", he was uplifting/melodic trance.
In 2002, the year "Bunkka" came out, he was bullshit.
This album is very popish. I would describe this album's genre as pop/house. Bunkka, however, did have "Southern Sun" and "Hypnotized", but out of 12 tracks those were the only 2 that were good.
Now, end of 2003, Paul is again starting to sound good. "Great Wall" has a great track selection. CD 1 is progressive house/trance. CD 2 is breaks and proggy-house.
Oakie is a trance dj but a part of electronica he loves other styles: Hip hop, R'n'B (I read it in a magazine) so he made tracks and albums completely differents to trance, and maybe also for earn more money.
But he's played different styles of trance during his career; trance, goa, progressive-trance...
crap trance he doesnt even play proper trance anymore
i agree with all of u guys hehe

yaletrance imo and fr experience i reckon people who like trance do not fancy hiphop/rnb.. not insulting your taste at all..diff people have diff tastes. its just from what i have gathered so far. I hate rnb/hiphop clubs coz i just cant enjoy that music played so loud.. however when i'm tokin' thats a diff story.
The 'true trancer' part was just meant as a pun.. so don't take it so seriously =)
