Smoking ..umm..something New Chicago Mod

i am in search of a new mod for chicago.... so here are my 2 recommendations:

1. dj2kta (Tom)
I've been to alot of dj nights the past year and Tom has been to most of them (and hence the CTA Event Whore President, status). Affable and friendly I believe that he is social and personable enough to take care of the Chicago TA boards.

2. UWM (Bobby)
I have nothing but utmost respect for Bobby for his musical knowledge and his passion for electronica. The fact that he will be moving to Chicago this summer means he will actually start showing up for all the dj events.

.................

Please nominate who you would like to vote for in this thread, thank you. And for people who think they should be included, please post reasons why you think you would do a good job.

Thank you and may the best man or woman win!

Porky

JDAT or UWM for me, both well respected & loved by most

I still think those two are a good choice for moderator. But this is not the "Chicago" board.

omg lololol MEE!! :PPP

porky!!! dont leaveee ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

jdat is right though its a midwest forum :P unless chris means he just wants a chicago person to moderate :P i dunno!!!

erm i vote for whoever is best

Jason, i know that this is not a 'chicago' mod, but the detroit guys do have DCS, and chicago does get more acts than surrounding cities. i hate to say it but it's true, chicago does get more acts than Ohio and detroit

If you look at the nyc boards, they are considering a new mod, and the prime candidate (brian/kidnyce) is someone who is actively promoting TA meetups and gatherings in the nyc area (to which i'm sure john you've attended a few). and it makes sense to choose Brian who's from the nyc area, as opposed to someone in DC, Boston or philly, where there isn't as much activity trance wise as nyc

so with that in mind, i am leaning towards someone in the chicago area. i believe that either bobby(uwm) or tom(dj2kta) will do a good job.

chris

it's simple. chicago is the biggest metro in the midwest so it makes logical sense to call it the chicago forums.

i just don't want to hand over the reins to someone far away who's not able to organize TA meetups, which i think is the most important part of the local boards. if the future mod is in around a metro say the chicago or detroit area.. it makes it easier for him

jdat gets my vote

Looking at it that way...I see your point. I don't dissagree, my choice would be someone from Chicago. I just didn't like it being called the Chicago board. And your right, DCS is more important to Detroit than TA.

horray !! PORKY FOR PRESIDENT!!! he knows what he is saying!! :P

so then u ppl in chicago choose who our mod will be since u know eachother more :P !!!!

This is not at all an ad for myself:

I don't think the person who is chosen moderator of the forum should be the one who is most active in organizing meetups and the most 'social' of the bunch.

I feel the moderator should be somebody who is on the boards often, knows the dynamic community of TA, and knows what/when to sticky, what to promote, etc ...

Just my opinion.

* EDIT

I say this because me and jdat, although we might not be at many "TA organized events" because of whatever circumstances, know the board better than most.

You're not aware of this cause I deleted it all but I brought up extremely valid points about the whole concentration around CHICAGO and all and well I was somewhat out of line for coming up as attacking porky publicly. In all respect to him I rectracted my comments. ( Others agreed to publicly .... )

But to put this shortly and not be as blunt as I was before, I think it's incorrect to chose a mod based on their local activity in the local scene. It is AND it isn't. Not to drag this out BUT this is an internet forum and if ones activity on the forum is not active then such responsibility should not be given to the person. It's only common sense. Now from a personal standpoint Porky's personal preference is relatively clear and I respect that; but as I indicated to him in private convos I have seen mods assigned to forums for "random" or unobjective reasons which made these forums turn dead due to inactivity from people in charge. Sorry if you want to call me a post whore ( which I clearly am not, I wouldn't think so because most of the posts I make are polite and well intended ) but I've been on forums ( not just TA ) for years and mod in many different ones and well ... if you make decision based on external facts well it's bound to lead to a 'situation'.

We are clearly faced with a tricky situation here that whichever way you cut it won't please all, that's life, but we have to make sense of what's realistic, and let me say this again this is NOT a Chicago forum exclusively.

Pardon my honesty Porky and people PLEASE do not take this as an attack against Porky he's like a bro to me and only understand such circumstances can I be this honest for his/our own good. Friends are there to be upfront.

I am out of the loop for numerous reasons I gues, so it's all go for UWM.

The thought crossed my mind. I don't know if it's a necessity due to the size of this forum but for better operations that might be recommended.

Why can't we have a Mod and a local organizer for meetups and events... one organizer for the Chicago area and one for the Detroit area??

john, i am assuming you are in disagreement with my personal choice of tom/dj2kta, for which you are entitled to your opinions but once again i have to disagree with you.

take a look at the nyc mod election. who's the top candidate? Brian/kidynce. outside of the ny boards he rarely posts elsewhere, and even within the nyc boards he doesn't post as much as other posters.

with this in mind, the reason why he is the top candidate is b/c of his local involvement. he has organized local meetups and local ta bbq's which is what in essence what the local boards are about. the boards are not about how much 'online' involvement you have. for all i can care, you could be a bedroom post machine but never attend events. how good of a mod would you be if you never attend shows and actually meetup with ppl, which is the next logical step after chatting with others online?

i think john, you are unfairly attacking Tom b/c in all honesty you have never a part of the local chicago TA meetups that have been going on the past year. i'm sure you are an active member of TA, but this has more to do with the local boards, with chicago being the biggest metro. in tom's defense, even though he will probably not post much, i do believe that he will make the extra effort to meetup with people like he has done in the past 7 or 8 shows i've been to with, and to me, that's the most important thing b/c i actually want ppl to meetup not just online but in person.

i agree with bobby that active posting is an important factor, to which i strongly believe that he would do a good job as a mod.

it's a combination of factors, not just online posting but also how socialble you are in person.. with these factors in mind i have narrowed the choices to tom and bobby and think they are the most capable in handling the modship.

ok people, let's vote! and we will see everyone b4 pvd in a couple weeks!

Some very good points so far in the thread. The two of us being nominated are being so for different reasons. I guess you just have to decide what criteria are more important for you to base your vote on. Bobby and I are both very active in the this forum, and I think either one of us would do well as a mod.
Its up to you peeps now though...so lets see some votes!

Posted by TrAnCeAkI on Oct-31-2003 01:22:

i dont know either so i cant vote :/

personally i mean too!! up close you know :P

keep me out of "our" hair? The last time I checked I have partied with many CTAs on multiple occasions where you have not even met PORK! Either way, you do have my vote for the new Chicago Mod because you are the only one who can out trainspot me in the midwest
