Smiley DJ dave seaman @ space 01.11.03

improv scratching followed by... born slippy (unbelievable piano intro) followed by.... eurythmics - sweet dreams (4am crowd sing-a-long)... and that was to close out the 3.5hr set

Dj Mag #40?!? screw dj mag! this guy is unbelievable

Posted by muli on Nov-01-2003 20:34:

yea was an imazing set! I loved it, some wicked tracks there.

Was cool how is encore went for like 30mins

Posted by Ghostface on Nov-02-2003 01:29:

woot! bring on next saturday!

Posted by jc on Nov-02-2003 03:09:

all I can say is WOW

that has to be one of the best parties ive ever been to
music, atmosphere, crowd, venue were all top!

that sound system is just something special.

as for seaman, #40 should is an embarrassment, this guy knows exactly how to work a crowd. it was just fun watching him bounce behind the decks

tracks I heard throughout the night

Mark Dynamix:
Echomen - Cure
Smart System - Morgentau

Dave Seaman:
Remy & Roland Klinkenberg - Dustsucker!
Yunus Guvenen - Seyo In Blue
Will Saul - Cliff (Infusion Remix)
Junkie XL ft Infusion - Aquaman / Cowgirl - Rez <- this mashup was crazy
Chable & Bonicci - Ride
Kosheen - In My Head (Planet Funk Remix)
Underworld - Born Slippy NUXX (some cool piano mix)
Eurythmics - Sweet dreams

definately up there alongside Holden and Foort for set of the year!

Posted by eRRaTiK on Nov-02-2003 03:20:

also,

Infusion - Legacy (Synthesia Dub Mix)
Coldplay - ?

What was that sweet as track with the female vocals that he played just before the encore (went for like 5-10 mins)? and anyone know what version of born slippy that was? that piano intro owns me!

talk about mixing across genres and musical time periods.. this guy did it all. yeh, and the 30 min encore was simply special

edit: space's sound system really is awesome. seaman just gave massive props to that club. ventilation still needs work though, and (if you space promoters/owners are reading) get some live cameras in there and project crowd/dj shots onto that big screen. the picture slideshow was good, but after seeing it 3 or 4 times got a bit boring... woulda been crazy to have a camera on dave as he was bouncing around, some shots on his mixing on the decks and live crowd shots. w00t! can't wait for sander k

Posted by muli on Nov-02-2003 07:21:

the coldplay song is a just the song (look on their album) but a Paul Oakenfold remix.

and the song ur after is
Kosheen - In My Head (Planet Funk Remix)

mark dynamix played some remix of a Moby track

and dave also played Epsilon 9 Lifeformation [Infirnal Machine Mix] as is second or third track.

Loved the cheesey songs at the end where everyone was singing along! Top stuff!

WHAT A SHOWMAN!!!!!!!!!

Deep RELENTLESS House, Mindblowing Trance... NO ONE builds a set like the great Dave Seaman... I am seriously blown away. The best set of the year without a doubt, and not by a small margin by a very large amount. The third time I've seen him and he just gets better and better.

I need Track IDs before i go insane.

The coldplay track is called "God put a Smile on upon face" and man that was brilliant placement at the climax of his set.

Talk about encore.... In-F**king-sane. I must strongly advise people in any other cities (Melb/Canberra) not to miss out. All class.

Personally the greatest set I've ever heard live.

Woohooo Infusion - Legacy (Synaesthesia Dub)!!! What a massive track.. Gooo davee...

If my words and sentences are somewhat incoherent its because im still dazed from that massive set.

Don't miss him for the love of MUSIC....!!!!!!!
LEGENDARY!

P.S. paulie has herpes.

Yeah Especially when you know or see most of those people! (e.g. I saw the photo of Helen a few times and that strange Guy who wears the orange shirt. He's like stalking me or something cause hes everywhere I go. 3 years of partying and hes always in the crowd! =))

Posted by tubby on Nov-03-2003 00:26:

To think I wasn't going to go, but no-one wanted to buy the tickets so I went for a short time. And damn i'm happy i did. Quite possibly the best set i've seen in sydney. Nice venue, nice and big, a bit of bouce to the floor, and if you pick it right, not too hot under the fans, but could do with another set of toilets in there.

Posted by lethal on Nov-03-2003 08:52:

Well i wouldnt say its the best set ive heard this year(James Zabiela has that honour followed closely by James Holden) but DAMN IT WAS GOOD!!!

Very impressive!!! another night of drunken shenanigans spent in the front row, lovin' every minute!!

Talking of pics there were some lovely gurners up there - see the one of Trent mixing!!LOL gurn and a half!!

Posted by Beemer on Nov-08-2003 01:31:

Yaaaaaaay I'm so glad u guys kept tellin me I'd made the right choice to see Seaman over goin to Halcyon

OMG, he was AMAZING..........trance has taken a bit of a back seat for me lately, and I've been loving prog - but I didn't realise it had the capacity to move me the way trance used to/does.....but the way he played it had me sheddin a few tears a couple times....the way he'd close his eyes and sing and look like he was a million miles away lost in the music..ahhh, bewdiful stuff Not to mention how damn groovy it was....hahaha my waist and hips are aching from 4 hours of groovin and booty shakin *lol* damn i wish u could dance to trance like that!!!!

ahh now i'm even more excited bout sander k than i was before...aaaaaaaaargh sumbody delete the next 2 weeks!!!!!!!

Posted by muli on Nov-08-2003 05:01:

glad to hear he was just as wicked down in canb!

I to have been loving prog more lately.

Comparing Dave Seamen to Matt Darey last night, i would take Dave anyday, he was just so amazing!

Posted by pimp on Nov-08-2003 05:55:

Yep, Dave's unique blend of house and trance really gets me going, I love it.

I fear that Sanders set is not gonna even come close but who knows!
Cya's @ Sander!

Posted by muli on Nov-08-2003 06:00:

yea but sander is different. Its hard to compare.

Both will be good.

Pitty i dont think i can make it to Sander

Posted by Ghostface on Nov-08-2003 07:39:

mmmmm 7 hours to go.....

Posted by Ghostface on Nov-09-2003 21:21:

omfg!

sorry everyone, Hobart owns you all. The guy was brilliant but not mind blowing. I would have preferred it a bit deeper and tougher but you can't have it all. Having said that, He was meant to play for three hours and played for 4! Oh yeah, and you all might be interested in what he played in the encore

Coldplay - God Put a Smile on Your Face (Oakenfold Mix)
Kosheen - In My Head (Planet Funk Remix)
New Order - Blue Monday (Bootleg / Mashup)
Soft Cell - Tainted Love (2003 Mix ?)
White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (Freeland Mix)
Kylie - Confide In Me (Brothers In Rhythm Dub?)
Green Velvet - Lalaland (Futureshock Dub?)
Underworld - Born Slippy (Piano Mix)
Eurythmics - Sweet dreams

During Encore:
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Sweeping Strings Mix)
Kate Bush v Infusion - Running Up That Hill

0wned.

having grown up in Hobart and suffered through 19 years there, I can most definitely say that, without a doubt, Hobart does NOT own us all

u sure, cause i have the oakey remix (official or not) from a few of his sets and it sounded just like the one dave played.

Posted by OzTisto on Nov-11-2003 14:51:

Have you got the Cattaneo Edit too? Sounds the same to me aswell...will try get the oaky mix tho...

edit: checked all the recent oaky tracklists i could find, all listed as (bootleg edit) until it was ID'ed as the Cattaneo Edit
