The Techno Thread

I haven't seen one of these for a while so I figured I'd start one.

Well I saw Ken Ishii a few weeks ago with Kazu Kimura @ Arc and it was really amazing. Dirty Dirty bass, no cheese, my first real Techno experiance. Anyone else here into Techno?

Oh and get the I Love Techno 2003 DVD.....pretty cool...except for Marco Baileys arrogant interviews with all the DJs..lol

Posted by PhilBxR on Nov-01-2003 19:57:

Yep, went to see Mauro Picotto, Gabry Fasano and Ricky Effe at Meganite pres. Inside Out @ The Arches Glasgow.

That was only my 2nd proper clubbing experience, teh club was fantastic, one the best in Britain Ive heard due to the electric atmosphere and great crowd!

The DJ's were fckin spectacular, banging all night, I only recognised a few tunes! Ricky played his mix of Picotto's Verdi and Alchemist while Gabry played his mix of DJ Rush's Sinner Man. What a tune!! Mauro was playing some scary bangin shit... I was away 15 mins before the end where I was gutted to have miss Murder Was The Bass and Erase Techno

yes Liebing and Beyer are indeed awesome DJs, I will definetly check that I love Techno DVD, sounds interesting.
Were you at ARC when Ken Ishii was there? cause I was really impressed (I had no idea who was spinning when I went there with a friend, it was a pleasant surprise.)

to be honest mate this dj sammy pish wasn't funny the first 100 times i've seen it on this board and its even less so now, so take it somwhere else.

and in relation to this thread, the djs i would like to see most who i've never heard before would be sven vath and chris liebing.

Have learned to appreciate techno the past few years, and now consider it one of the most interesting genres out there. My fav DJ's (both seen them live this year):

-Jeff Mills (THE godfather of techno, amazing mixing skills)
-Umek (does brilliant things with a turntable, great producer also)

Mills is really something else. This man knows how to build up a set and entertain a crowd.

nah

kowalski is kanzerlamt style :P
melodic techno - more detroitish/french techno.
feos is closer to schranz or something, but its very different from production to production...

but techhouse..
hm

techhouse = (mr.c's ironic definition); a word they came up with back in the early 90s because some clubs didnt want to book him because he played technoish, and some because he played too houseish, so therefor he said that he played tech-house, and ended the debate

Yeah FEOS plays Techno and Tech-house deppends of the set and Kowalski does "live" like Nu-Nrg but I think he played just techno.
I don't know how explain each subgenre but you can identify which is just listening (sometimes it's difficult 'cos in fact is techno). Better with examples: LAurent Garnier or John Aquaviva---> Tech house
Tech-trance ---> Sven Vth
and techno ---> Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Mistress Barbara... and many more...

And about minimal and hard techno I don't know, but I found this about minimal:
Minimal Techno is just a simple rhythm and some sound. It is Techno with a small number of different noises and much empty space in the track. From the editorial point of view, this is not an interesting genre; one sentence is enough. But musically, this is interesting, because Minimal is so basic. One could compare it with the relation between the simplicity of a string quartet against the power of a big orchestra.
