Equivalence Class
(For a definition of what is an Equivalence Class, look at http://mathworld.wolfram.com/EquivalenceClass.html)
Well, I would like to understand better all the sub-divisions of trance (and electronic music in general), so I am trying to get one class representative of every trance sub-genres.
For example, if Bossa Nova was the target, I could say "Garota the Ipanema" is one good representative for Bossa Nova, everyone who listen to "Garota de Ipanema" thinks: this is Bossa Nova.
So, which sub-genres we have in Trance (progressive, hard, melodic, vocal, etc.) and what would be a good representative for each one?
P.S. (Before you say "Trance is one good style and don't care what is the sub-genre, or anything like this and bla bla bla ....", thank you, I like music, but I like these nuances too : ))

no one really knows, but some ppl think they do.
most ppl including me can only tell the difference between the main groups ie trance, house, progressive, hardstyle
At first I was trying to put labels on different tunes and DJs, but the more I listened, the more opinions started to change and the more diverse styles I was exposed to. Now there are just two genres I label stuff as: like/don't like.
man... i can't believe u brought set theory into this... lol
anyways...
progressive... gabriel and dresden
dance... paul van dyk
techno... mauro piccotto
uplifting/dream/trippy/fucking good trance... armin van buuren
deep house/prog... deep dish, saeed and palash
will add more later!!!!
