used mixers . . . good or bad idea?
I've been interested Vestax PCV-275 for some time, due to the fact that it is raved about all the time on these forums, and looks to be a nice mixer . . . however, I'm a bit reluctant because of its $400+ price tag, and I figure if I'm going to spend that kind of cash, I should put it toward a Xone:32/62 or a Pioneer DJM500/600 sometime in the future . . . Right now I have a Numark 3000x, which does the job, so I'm not in any hurry. but lately I've been finding good deals on the PCV-275, used ones, from between $200-300. My question is, is it worth it? I'm guessing its pretty easy to abuse a mixer and just normal wear can cause problems. Do I really want someone's 1-2 year old piece of equipment, even if it is a quality product? What is everyone's opinion on this?
unless you know the person selling it, or atleast can test it out before you buy, i wouldnt.
you'll want to test it out, cuz you can hear the sound quality, and just see how everything feels (fader-wise, or how the the eqs "handle")
I own a djm-300 that I purchased used off of ebay for 140 bills. I was a little skeptical yes going in and I passed up a lot of different auctions until I met one that seemed pretty good. It was some girl who had purchased a new vestax and was gettin rid of this one. 2 yrs old, the mixer was worked with two cd tables and its whole life was spent in a coffin. My mixer actually came in better condition than my used techs did, nothing wrong with the eq's or switches and the crossfader is nice as hell. I guess you could say I lucked out but I think if you just look around you can find someone who has most likely taken good care of it. Buying online is pretty skeptical and always carries its risks, try it out if you can. I think its great if you are just starting up and cannot afford brand new top of the line. I mean, how many starting guitarists buy their first amplifier used??
i got my DJM-300 from ebay too. the seller said its mint condition and everything just great on it, but i figured out the cross fader is loss when i get the mixer, beside this, everything excellent~
I don't trust ebay... i got f** ( sorry for the language ) once already, I know I know I checked all his reviews and everything, anyways they all have perfect deals and im so attracted to some of the tables in a good price, I can't hold myself, but I'm willing to spend almost all my money for a new piece wich i won't regret.. then sell it for about the same price to someone who is just starting who doesn't know anything about turntables. But thats just mean but you know what im talking about...
I'd go for new all the way.. I have been thinking about it a year ago when I bought my own setup, and I decided to go for new, just to be sure the gear wasn't f**ked up..
It costs a little more, but at least I was sure I got something decent, to me it wasn't worth the risk of buying 2nd hand.
