PC Advice Please

Can anyone help with this query?

I can't record on my pc when it is wired from my amp. When I try to record in any application I get no sound to monitir, and no sound on playback.

However, I have just discovered that when I switch my pc on, as it is booting up I get playback sound from the source going to the line in.

But as soon as I enter my password and log in the sound goes dead. There must be something in my profile when I log in that disables the line in. Any ideas anyone?

Check the sound mixer volumes and mute settings, also check your sound card control panel (if you have one) for anything muted or low volume.

^ I am willing to bet that you have the line-in muted... if you are getting sound before you login, you know your cables / setup is right. its something with your settings... like line-in being muted.

I have the line in selected for recording and there is no facility to mute it.

In windows XP how would I check if it is muted? I have checked everything in Control Panel that I can find.
