ID Contest 8

Contest numero ocho coming up...

If you haven't caught on by now, here's how it works:

The idea:

Download the .RAR and try to identify as many samples as you can. Input your results in the blank text file included and send them to me via e-mail [email protected] or PM. Results can be resubmitted as many times as desired and the highest score acheived will be the one that counts.

The contest is open for one month as of today and the individual with the most points (more info on scoring below) at the end of the month is the winner. Included are 50 lo-fi, 15 second MP3 samples. Tunes range from trance to progressive house but the contest is generally trance-oriented and the samples are of varying difficulty so as to challenge beginner and expert trainspotters alike (in theory).

What do I win?

Not much. You get our everlasting respect and adoration (or something) plus you get stuck with the task of making the next contest. Motivated yet?

Rules:

Not many rules really.

Don't post answers here.
Don't give other people your answers.
Each sample is worth 2-3 points. Points are awarded as follows:
Correct artist, title or mix = 1 point
Any two of the above = 2 points
All three of the above = 3 points

Note that not every sample has a mix listed, and since the qualifiers "original, club, edit, album, etc." don't count for points some samples are worth only 2 points. Furthermore, no points will be awarded for misnamed artists even if the producer is named correctly, e.g., Airbase - Rock would be worth 1 point whereas Ozone - Rock would net 2 points. There are 123 total points to be had.

Contest is open until December 3.

Happy ID'ing!

This one's really hard. Good job Starglider!

I've only got 1, 10, 11, 23, 31, 32, 33 and 38

Sad Ugh

Gaaaadammm it ...... when will there ever be an ID Contest that consists of the POPULAR songs, or classics, or anything in between, and the first person to identify all tracks wins. That would sound more fun, wouldn't you think?

Cause so far I only got ID'd 3 tracks, so whats the point of sending my answers anyway ...

Posted by Protege on Nov-03-2003 23:11:

Sweet, but these are a little hard.

Posted by Haak on Nov-03-2003 23:13:

Posted by Protege on Nov-03-2003 23:54:

Grrrrrrrr only 7 so far and a bunch of them are killing me not knowing what they are. This could be a while.

I think you'll find it's considerably easier than the last two contests. The idea was to make it easy enough to get more people involved while still being a challenge for the "hardcore" IDers. As you can see some people have already IDed a lot of them. To be fair, a large percentage of the tracks are classics, or at least well known tracks. There are a few obscure ones but I tried to keep them to a mininum, and there are some real giveaways too. The idea is to be able to ID the tracks, and anyone who's played the game knows that simply having heard a track doesn't mean you can write down the full title -- which is the fun part (or not so fun, depending on your perspective ).

Anyway 3 tracks isn't so bad really considering you've only just looked at it. Feel free to send them or wait a while because chances are you'll get more if you give it a bit of time. You might have trouble catching Sand Leaper though who seems to have "leaped" out to an early lead. Time will tell...

And yeah, a sticky would be helpful obviously, presumably a mod can do it sometime soon.

Hehe ... I ID'd 7 tunes now ... LOL, I didnt see this post before that, so I guess I'll have to give you a thanks. Makes it more worthwhile ... I already have my ID contest set up, probably for my future website, and its mostly well-known classics, so its points would be to get 50/50, lol.

Posted by Magnetonium on Nov-04-2003 05:37:

Idea I got a clever Idea!!

How about an unknown tracks trade? For example, I have the ID on track #6, and I need an ID for, lets say track #10. Then whoever has the ID on that track, but doesnt have an ID on track 6, can do a "trade". LOL, its just a crazy idea, so dont start spanking me ....

I wouldn't be surprised if this actually happens around here

Posted by emul8or on Nov-04-2003 06:08:

15 positive IDs so far... good selection this time

Posted by Icesotope on Nov-04-2003 06:22:

geez.. ID contest 8 up so fast? I'm kinda have my hands full now on the 'Unknown Tracks Section' and Ishukar's ID Contest

I'll try to participate later on. (I hope its not all deep trance, epic trance, Progressive trance)

Cheerz!
