Smiling Frog Seeeegaaaa

My old Sega Megadrive went into surgery the other day. Following delicate soldering, and several touch and go moments, I managed to get the beast working again.

Now has a funky blue LED, and a switch that lets me play Jap games. (also speeds up the processor and lets you play in full screen too!)

Sod PS2's - cartrige based games are what all the cool kids play!

Cool

my mega drive never broke, some of the games don't work anymore tho dunno why, when u turn it on you just get black, not the few lines of white text followed by publisher etc. brings a tear to ones eye

+ sonic owned mario, however mario still lives, sonic does not.

Me and my housemates set up one guy's megadrive in our lounge at the start of the year. It sits proudly beneath the TV, looking all black and shiney. I love that console, the Streets Of Rage games kicked ass!!

Mario is, of course, the all time best game ever. Never really got into Sonic.

I cant beleive there are others who still play these old classics!!!

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Nov-06-2003 06:11:

I still have my good old megadrive and mastersystem. I have sold some of the games down the line though which i kind of regret. But I still play it from time to time. Especially Alex Kidd on the mastersystem and Sonic, Street Fighter, NBA Jam, and so on, on the megadrive. I hate to start sounding like my parents, but they really don't make consoles like they used to. The good old PC will wipe the floor with the PS2's, X-Box's and Gamecubes and what have you malarky, but nothing will ever replace the old skool arcade consoles like the megadrive, snes, etc.

Posted by Spin Doctor on Nov-06-2003 20:45:

Less hassle Chojin? Yes by far, but is it 1/1000th as good as playing on a REAL console? No not by a long shot! Though the girl in you sig is veeeeeery pretty so Ill let you off...this time! *waves finger*

Ok heres what to do. Open up your MD (you can use a normal Philips screwdriver, Sega didnt have the brains/money to have one of those security screw thingies) and inspect the slot where the cartridges make contact with the board. Get a very thin nail/pin/pokey thing and in the holes above and below the main slot poke the contacts out a bit back towards the slot. Be careful that you dont completely poke them out though. That should make it work once more! You can do it with out taking off the bonnet but it's easier if you do.

the wires on the control pads for hte snes are much longer than the megadrive ones - they were annoyingly short, anyone else find this? the good thing about catridge consoles is the absense of loading time - imagine if PCs were like that!
the megadrive never had Super Mario Kart and Zelda, those games were complete ownage.

Posted by Streakfury on Nov-06-2003 21:46:

I was playing the megadrive today, on the game by which all other football games should be measured:

World Cup Italia '90

That game is teh sexay!!! I dont even like football, but that game is class!
