Latin sounding techno tracks or mixing latin tracks into good techno tunes

Wtf is up with this? I hate this! As a matter of fact, I haven't met anyone who likes it!

I really don't think they go well together at all, but that's just me.

Is there anyone out there who actually likes this stuff? And to those who do, stop making it public! Perfectly good techno sets are being ruined with this trash!

I'm not sure what started the trend, but Tomaz vs. Filterheadz - Sunshine was probably the one that brought the sound to the masses, so to speak. I agree that it's a bit weird but I do like Marco Bailey - Ipanema which uses Latin vox as well.

can you give an example? are you talking of tracks like carnaval or anything by max walder? now that's latin-influenced techno that works.

Posted by Greedy on Nov-05-2003 07:16:

yea man, i love that latin taste. Something Carl Cox would do occasionally. . . he also has residency in ibiza.

hoho

if you travel at least 4 more years back in time, then you might find the songs that brought the latin sound into the technotrax..

if you should mention one tomaz vs filterheadz song it would have to be "los hijos del sol (4 sun)"

anyways

im getting a bit bored of this kinda techno
more melodic,stringy,pounding technO!

Posted by Muff2K on Nov-05-2003 12:21:

cave - magdaleha
filterheadz - sunshine
monika kruse - latin lovers
umek - memento
ben sims - manipulated
marco bailey - ipanema
joy dj moss - bogota experiences

Big Ears

yo absolutely Ben Sims - Manipulated

Posted by chesco on Nov-05-2003 17:25:

adam beyers remix of manipulted by sims was and still is streets ahead of any other latin sounding track, but imo, ever since monika kruse released that latin lovers shite there has been an absolute explosion in the number of latin tracks with brazilian, columbian...... (wherever the fuck latinvia is) tracks, all of which are complete and utter shite.

Posted by Carl_Paris on Nov-05-2003 17:57:

Nothing wrong with latin techno, at least not as a concept...

As for who started it, I think Ben Sims - Manipulated (Adam Beyer Remix) was one of the first.

Good latin techno:
Andrew McLauchlan - Love Story (Bryan Zentz / Devilfish Remixes)
Tomaz Vs. Filterheadz - Los Hijos Del Sol

Who said that there are rules for producing techno songs ?? If a DJ/Producer feels that it sounds good to add some merengue, salsa or samba sounds to a track then it's up to him.

Some DJs have learned to appreciate the latin feeling of music, some don't, besides, techno is very compatible with latin music in terms of rythm, not in vane in latin american countries techno is perhaps the most popular genre of electronic music.

has anyone said that there are any certain rules in producing techno

nope

some of those who are negative to it now only say that they are tired of it,because it's too much..

as chesco say, there have been lots of latin.techno lately, whereas most of it sux bigtime.

but its a matter of taste, as all other music

!agree

Got sick of this kind of techno, it's just too much of the same.. And now Innercity has also lost a lot of my respect by choosing Cave - Street carnival as its main theme

Posted by verminator on Nov-06-2003 12:38:

doh

haha
cave began laughing when i told him lol:P

he didnt know

think id&t have licensed the song too. payed ingoma or something, so they can use

ffs

this is weirdo.. the song is like over 1 year old now
muhah

Posted by basd on Nov-06-2003 12:43:

Could very well be they licensed it.. Hopefully this doesn't mean a re-release (well, hopefully for Cave but not for me at least), which will mean it'll get hammered again, played on the radio here..

This already was spun to death last summer (and true, it was six months old even then)..

It's not only the fact that it's old that makes it wrong to me, I think it just sucks (but then again I don't dig the latin tribal techno thingie anyway)

tu sabes lo que pasa?........most of these people don't have the funk or flavor to feel this music, at least some great djs have recognized that this music can tear the roof apart really hard! this is probably due because techno is the #1 edm genre in Spain and in many Latin American countries. Que viva el techno con sabor latino! (of the good kind of course )

Posted by chandler on Nov-06-2003 16:32:

BTW, latin sounds are not only used on techno, remember Gatex by Umek, some months ago that song was all over the sets of the likes of Paul Van Dyk and Armin Van Buuren, and those keyboards have Puerto Rican Salsa written all over them, I'm sure they are from some Salsa song, it sounds like Richie Ray & Boby Cruz !!

So if even the trance gods use it why make a big fuss over the subject ???

yeah that's true, Gatex has a salsa clave, i hadn't thought about that but that is techno too, just a different kind.....of course the latin sound was originally and still used much more in house. good proggy melodic salsa clave in Roc Project-Never (Filterheadz remix)

Posted by Laughingfennec on Nov-06-2003 21:35:

Cesaria Evora - Angola (Carl Craig's Mix)
Laurent Garnier - The man with the red face
both are nice, i don't really like latin sounds with techno, but those tracks are well made
