Thumbs down Black Hole Recordings is taking necessary actions!!

Dam this sux...

And now some news about the Black Hole Records matter. Today I got a long and insightful email from them explaining what is going on. They will continue searching trough the web for sites containing their copyrighted material and the mail I got earlier was not fake as I mentioned yesterday. They don't mind about mp3's in general and only want you webmasters out there to remove their music from your sites. If you really want to spread material from their artists then put some livesets online as they are not copyrighted!

if they come across live sets and begin saying that they are copyrighted I'll fuckin shoot the whole fuckin Black Asshole crew.

Shame / Disagreement

The way I look at it, Black Hole Records AREN'T thinking in some areas. Firstly, their sales will drop because if for example no-one did upload any Black-Hole material (highly unlikely) who is going to know what their recordings are like? Tunes like Ralphie B - Massive will be unheard and who's going to buy tracks that they have never heard!

It's stupid trying to kill the MP3's, a lot of people (exlcuding tight-asses) will use the MP3 as a listening preview tool (equivealant of listening to a record in a shop) and then go out and buy the vinyl, because it's well deserved.

Hmmm...such a 50/50 thing though.

if you go to a rave you already payed for the rights of the music that will be played. (the dutch partyorganisators pay that 2 bumra/stemra) also the tv and radio stations have to pay to the rights of the music 2 broadcast them so that they can broadcast it so the music of livesets are copyright protected.

Posted by theeyesofdarkness on Jul-14-2001 11:57:

what they are mainly concerned w/ is their albums.. like the magik series and such.. they dont want sites to have them posted up for download. which i agree w/ even though i do download albums. but they are right.. they should not be up.

But also, I know it is widespread international law that you can record what you want from the TV and Radio (What's a VCR for?). I'm not stretching the concept of intellectual property, but there is ZERO difference recording, say 'Dharma + Greg' every week on your VCR than recording 'Van Diespen's Dance Department' every week on an mp3.

[Released albums and singles are completely different, and I agree with Black Hole with taking action against that.]

We have complete right to record and listen to everything broadcasted on the radio [Provided we don't sell it for profit].

i agree that mp3's are a good way of hearing the song, and then going out to buy it. If you are a dj, it is very helpfull, and saves gettin crap vinyls. So it will b a shame

Posted by Tranz on Jul-14-2001 12:59:

TRANCE MUSIC IN GENERAL WOULDN'T BE AS BIG IAS IT IS NOW, IF IT WEREN'T FOR MP3'S. WHEN WILL THE RECORD LABELS REALIZE THIS? ESPEICALLY HERE IN AMERICA, ALOT OF THESE DJ'S WOULD BE UNKNOWN IF IT WEREN'T FOR MP3'S AND THE INTERNET. THINK ABOUT IT...

Posted by Wlcked Red on Jul-14-2001 14:14:

hmmmm

If my information is correct Tiesto is part owner
of Black Hole Recordings and that would mean (IMO)
that he has something to do with this letter

Looking at that letter from BHR and then at what
Tiesto said about mp3's and their availability on the net
I would have to say that this whole matter makes him look
like a hypocrite

On the one hand he says this:
Question: What do you think of the about audioformat MP3?
I really like it, because specially in The States and also here in
Sweden it's been good for my name because my CDs are hard to get here.

Question: What do you think when people download your songs illegaly?
Is it bad because you loose royalty money?
Well, I'm not in there for the money. I'm really glad, actually honored, that people download my music. That's a compliment I think.

On the other a letter is sent asking webmasters to remove ALL
BHR content ???

So which is it, Tjis? Make up your mind (and I think we all know
that you are not in it for the money )

and yes, I agree with all of u that albums should not be
available for dload

Posted by Swamper on Jul-14-2001 21:20:

Sites that regularly post albums are just inviting this sort of thing to happen... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out one out..

Posted by mindshooter on Jul-15-2001 21:44:

Evil1

This is soooo stupid!!! I would never spent any of my money on CDs if it werent because of Mp3....if you really like trance you like to buy records to....i collect them.....next saturday im goin all way down to BlackHoleRecordingShop in Breda just to buy records for 200$....wold never have done it if i hadnt had alot of the trax on mp3 so i knew it would be worth the buy!!!!

Posted by MoonMan on Jul-15-2001 21:54:

Angry

I totally agree, with the idea that nearly all my vinyl collection, has become the way it has, is beacuse of the mp3 format. ie if i hear a tune, and try and buy wots wrong wid that, there still getting my money and the end of the day. Its just another tool to get the music across to people, and it should not be stopped.

This sux, Black Hole recordings contain some of the best trance out there, in tunes and Compilations, and albums, heaving this removed from the sites will hit hard on us, I saw this on the trancegate community site, and some sites may die cause of this disturbing announcement, last year they clamined of searching, but no one believed cause I believe TIESTO is owner of Black Hole ?!?! and he said that he has nothing against Mp3 sharing and so on , so is wierd, cause thanx to this sharing many people have been able to know artists, unkwnown DJ's, and tunes from such artists , they've been known all the way here to the USA, and maybe every corner of the world, plus, they are IMPORTS, so is very hard to get them, some places , you eithe pay 45 bucks or get it for free to first see if its worth to buying..

Posted by mindshooter on Jul-15-2001 22:55:

Exclamation

someone should really mail them and ask them what they are thinking...maybe give them a link to this thread or somethin.....how about it?

Posted by TrAnCe CoNtRoL on Jul-15-2001 23:04:

they can shove it up their (black) HOLE

Posted by flystyler on Jul-15-2001 23:18:

it is a shame, i can see where he is cumming from, but it is good to listen to a song before you buy it. But in my opinion it would not make a big difference if he let his mp3's get downloaded

Posted by Cream21 on Jul-16-2001 07:38:

Hm okay mabe I make me now no friends, but you have to see also the business site of this all! To produce a 12" it costs not less, the price for oil, where 12" are made from most going higher and higher, the price for a 12" for selling is not going much higher. Most of the money the record stores made not the producer or the label! To get a 0 line you have to sell 3000 copys of a 12"! Sure with a Tiesto 12" it will be no problem, but they are not only Tiesto 12"! I'm talking now not only about Black Hole, this is straight for every label! If you wanna make your 12" successfull in the dance charts you also have to send a least 1000 to 1500 promos to DJs to spin your 12" that also costst money! This all is not the big problem for a big label like Black Hole I think but it is and they are a lot of smaller labels and when they see that nearly double as much people have the tune but not the 12" (which reason doesn't matter in the first part for them) sure they get pissed off!

I think all the labels are not against mp3 itself, I think when they are ways that they get the money (then it can be more less, because they have no production costst!) they also would agree with that!

I think it doesn't matter if Britney Spears sales 10 million singles or 11 million singles but I think it does matter if Black Hole is selling 30.000 or 50.000 Magix 7 albums!

Sure most of you guys here said, you buy the 12" or CD if you like the track, but how many people download songs and don't buy the CDs, 12" and don't talk here in the board!

And sure, I also see the problem that guys in the US can't get the CD because they don't find them, but hey, it worked also befor mp3 was born!

So all I wanna say is that you also have to se the site of the business! The most label owners down drive ferrari!!!!

Absolutley correct i was about to say the same...Tiesto first said i dont mind Mp3s now its a big deal....

but no matter what blackhole says there songs will still be all over the net.....Sorry Blackhole

I think i can ensure you that they would only sell 15.000 Magix albums if Tiesto and trance music wasnt spread so much over the internet.....Since trance music isnt really on the radio and on the TV and commercial. Mp3 is the way of advertising your song exept letting DJs spin the track at partys but thats it.......everybody doesnt go to big raves....

Well, I figured I'd post an opinion. Basically, I think that DJs that complain about their albums being availabe as MP3s are insane. I mean does anyone here really think Tiesto makes his money by selling albums? He gets paid huge amounts of dollars for spinning live. He is a DJ afterall right? And what are MP3s? Free advertising. I, for one, might never have heard of him without the access to MP3s. I've never even seen one of his Magik albums for sale in a store here in the US. I traveled all the way to Toronto last February just to hear him spin, purely because of the MP3s I've downloaded by him. I can understand how musical groups might shun MP3s, but a DJ should be happy that people are downloading his or her albums. The more people that hear it, the more people he or she can draw to a show, and the more money he or she can command from the venue. Seems pretty simple to me.

Tottaly true...and that was what Tiesto said rite? That he wanted to have his music spread by Mp3..... i think something is wrong here....
Well well....

Trance is to be shared, enjoyed and to make people happy....not poor..
