Arrow Compiling a mix for my friend

ok... just trying to convert some of my friends to trance ... I know a lot of these tracks are old... but it doesn't matter to them.. I don't think they've heard any of them lol... Anyways, what do you think of the tracklist? I tried to include a lot of melodic, vocal, and some unique tracks in it while trying not to make it cheesy...

btw.. it wasn't mixed using decks and I suck and I'm not a DJ... so don't ask me for an mp3 of it

Here's the tracklist:
1. Rank 1 - Airwave 2003 (Breathing)
2. Andain - Beautiful Things (G&D Unplugged mix)
3. Kamaya Painters - Far From Over
4. Binary Finary - 2000 (Dumonde remix)
5. Marco V - Simulated
6. Midway - Monkey Forest
7. Chemical Brothers - It Began in Africa
8. Gouryella - Gouryella
9. Darren Tate vs Jono Grant - Let the Light Shine in
10. Baelaric Bill - Destination Sunshine (Dj Tiesto Power Mix)
11. The Gift - Seventh Day
12. Ascension - For a Lifetime (Coast2Coast Remix)
13. Twilight - Platina (Maurits Paardekooper Remix)
14. Fatboy Slim - Star 69 (Timo Maas Mix 2001)

That's not really a tracklist. It's a random assortment of tracks with no structure at all. Why not just give your friend an mp3 CD. That way he/she gets 10x as many tracks.

I'd ease them in through more cheesy tracks... I don't really think that 7th Day or Simulated would go down too well...

Definitely definitely agreed. More cheese, less Marco V.

I kind of had a similar experience. Some of the track I used were...

james holden - nothing
amoebaassassin - piledriver (grayed out summer mix)
cass & slide - perception (vocal mix)
the space brothers - legacy
skip raiders feat. Jada another day (brainbug remix)
gigi dagostino la passion
dj tiesto close to you

and some others which I cant remember right now. Point being, I had some catchy songs, some vocals, some cheese, etc. I didnt put in anything hard that usually deters people. Not too many people like hard stuff right off the top.

Hope this helps.

-Keith

PS. You had a nice tracklist.

i dunno.. I find that the marco V track works well... I put a lot of melodic tracks before that.. and I think it works well to deviate from that a bit and give a different type of track... I think the gift - seventh day should work well... I want my friends to like trance... but not cheese... and no waay i'm putting dj sammy or ian van dahl in the list... i don't want to ppl the wrong impression

Posted by J.L. on Nov-06-2003 17:04:

keep in mind that i also mixed this so that it would flow well and so that you wouldn't have melodic/uplifting track after another

I'll try james holden - nothing

thx... i just can't stand the rap that some ppl listen to ... must convert them to trance...

If you want a good tracklist with older tracks, go for a "Cheesy Classics" set.

I would do something like this . . . . .

Robert Miles - Children
Chicane - Saltwater
William Orbit - Adagio for the strings
Rank 1 - Airwave
Ralph Fridge - Angel
Solar Stone - Solarcoaster
Lost Tribe - Game Master
Art of Trance - Madagascar
Ferry Corsten - Out of the Blue
Paul Van Dyk - Avenue
Thrillseekers - Synaethesia
Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar
Push - The Legacy
Gouryella - Ligaya
Agnelli Nelson - Everyday

But then everyone's different !
