basic amplifier question

What is the correct way to shut down an amplifier? Do you shut down the amplifier first? Or do you shut down the turntables, mixer, and then amp? I know you can ruin your equipment if you get a spike. thanks

Greg

Always amp first, then mixer and then equipment. This is to avoid the, as you mentioned, spikes that could potentially damage your speakers.

when you have a set with monitor speakers or powered speakers does it work the same way....
speakers/mixer/tables ect...

Yep same deal. The mixer generates that surge when you turn it off. Regardless of what you have hooked in, be it an amp or powered speakers, it will still create a sudden pop that could cause damage.

like punchline said.......thats how u turn your equuipment off.

To turn your equipment on, u do the exact opposite.... mixer/tables first.....then the amp.

Well.. if it damages your speakers, it'll also damage your headphones I think, as they are speakers as well, but customized so you can place em directly over your ears.

(glad they did that customizing, would look a bit funny otherwise.)
