A friend of mine has been diagnosed with tinnitus. He hears constant ringing in the ears. During the daytime the external noises drown out the ringing, but at night when everything is quiet it's there. He has problems sleeping because of it. The distressing thing is there's no cure. It's there permanently for the rest of his life. He's done some research and has found that there are therapies to help him "ignore" it, and they can be daily exercises over many months. He used to go out to Goodbar frequently, but now he doesn't go out to loud bars, clubs, concerts or dance events anymore.

It's up to the individual whether she/he wants to take the risk of getting tinnitus. It may not come now, but it can come later in life.

I've worn ear plugs once; this was when my ears started to hurt. When your ears start to hurt, it's not a good sign.

Ear plugs may not look "cool", but having tinnitus is not "cool" either, as I've learnt from my friend.

after working in clubs for quite a few years, i had my hearing tested for a job .. found out i was legally deaf in my left ear (even tho i can still hear OK out of it, some frequencies i can't hear at all)

I try not to go out without my earplugs now where possible .. and if i don't have them, i make sure i have a break every half hour from the loud noise..

definately worth money to get those earplugs!!

exactly, i can remember going to PvD, and dancing next to the speakers for 3 hours straight. For the next 4 days after that, the ringing in my ears was: I coudlen't sleep at night...grrr, it was driving me crazy! Then I went to see the doctor, and he was like: "don't worry about it, your ears are just bruised(hmmm JUST bruised, isn't that a bad in itself you overpaid moron? ) and it will clear up after a week". Anyway, so it did clear up after a week, and I'm really lucky, coz it was a really really minor form of tinitus. But i just don't take the chance anymore, and wear earplugs wherever i go

I always wear my $5 clear putty ear plugs, they are mega cool cause they are clear n like jelly, they form to ur ear. Get em from the chemist.. unless you want a ringing noize forever in your ears...

earplugs are for the weak !lol bring on the tinnitus

Hmm I have the ringing in 1 ear too but its not too loud and I dont even notice it most of the time. Your brain learns to filter it out I think. I got it from some infection when I was a kid, and made me half deaf in 1 ear

there is like a little screw hiding in the inner of the soft stuff that turns it up and down. It basically cuts out all the nasties that will hurt your ear on ranges like firing weapons and stuff. As for club use, I wouldnt know if theyre really suitable. I know with the big headset variety of them if you power them up too much they start to screeeeecchhh. So I wouldnt want that happening with the mini variety jammed in your ear when your half mashed or cut or woteva (Guns firing is a pretty constant noise but changing bass and whatever i dunno. ?

ill try and aquire a pair for testing.

yeh .. if anyone finds out about a decent pair of ear plugs and how much we can get them for / where to get them from , please post it up here! also I think you can get clear ones that are hardly noticeable, a well worth investment imo.

a friend of mine from Columbia actually had to return there as he was diagnosed with permanent ear dammage after he saw Timo Maas at home last year. He is restricted from going to any loud concerts, bars or clubs, and even the radio in the car had to be on a minimum -not a very pleasant lifestyle.

If i could reduce the noise at a club even by 40% through the plugs, it would be better than nothing.

anyone with details about a good pair, please post. I'll be doing my homework as well

yeah im kind of disconcerted whenver my ears ring after an event
its hell annoying tryin to get to sleep
i think itd make sense to get some of those clear ones, especially if you aren't a frequent clubber
im deaf enough as it is

Someone said you can get those clear ones from a chemist opr something?? I might need to invest, as long as they dont degrade the quality of the music.

Chemist sell so many different brands, that's the place 2 get em 4m

The actually ADD to the quality of music, as everything is clear. The GAS system that every1 was saying sounded bad for Halcyon sounded perfect/great to me with ear plugs in as the sound gets filtered to the same level. Ear plugs will add the the quality of your night. I'd suggest you get them for sanders, put them in, if you don't enjoy how it sounds, take them out. Point being start with them in. WHen you take them out, you'll realise how good they are

cheap $5 earplugs block out a lot of vital frequencies which causes the sound to degrade

custom made plugs just reduce the dB level leaving the frequency spectrum alone

due to the ear moulds they have to create for ur ear

i don't know how effective these are
but give them a shot.
etymotic have quite a good rep in the audio field.

i use cheapo $5 ear plugs when i go out now, so much better! They take a bit of getting used to but are great in the long run!

I want to get custom made ones tho so i can use them for DJing aswell!! The more i play out the more im noticing my hearing deteorating quickly, so i want to get some soon.

I've seen a few people with pairs that stick out like that. They do stick out your ear a little bit. Personally I'm not comftable with that, but yeah as I said, get a few pairs, find what you like

It's possible with the custom plugs, I've heard quite a few rumors of Sasha doing it, and based on how they work, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. The thing with the cheap 1's is the way they work is either compressing the sound, or cutting certain frequencies.
