This is fucking pathetic!!! MTV will broadcast anything to make fucking money. Little do they know....they are killing the music.

Posted by Mebot on Nov-09-2003 20:51:

Hmm i havent seen any ads for it yet, of coure i never really watch much MTV anyways.

Is it a show following candy-ravers into a trance/techno club xperience? or will it follow a muscle-bound guido into an R&B/Hip hop club to pick up chicks?

anyways i agree with you brian, another disgusting way for MTV to make money whilst killing de music

And its funny how they are going to show people taking drugs in the most public and known places - which are also the worst clubs in NYC. If they were to show a place like Arc, the worst thing they would see is some of the fruitcake shirtless muscle boys that cant dance nor do they even look that good (and thats only if they can get through the doors with the cameras ).

I would suggest that you guys not make too many assumptions, you've never even seen the show and you're alreay criticizing it as if you have.

actually, i'll watch it religiously. i like mtv. if mtv has any marketing sense (and they certainly seem to) they are going to play up the drug component of the club scene because that's what sells. and because they have marketing sense, they will probably try to put a more positive spin on the club scene because everyone is expecting the negative. or i hope it will be that way...

yeah, don't take the "you're all snobs" remark to heart, its just that many TA's have shamelessly admited to being music snobs

I hope so too, the negative is virtually non-existent.

True Life is actually one of the more well documented shows on MTV. I actually think I have seen most of them, and as previously mentioned, they do show all angles of the report, so I definitely think its something worth tuning in for. About a year ago, there was a True Life: I'm on ecstasy" or something of that sort. Was very interesting to watch, and especially hearing one of the guys say that they after quiting, what they miss most is the music and the people (he was saying this while sitting in front of his PC with a screenful winamp playlist in the background).

Posted by NYGblue on Nov-10-2003 04:23:

The reason the show will suck is b/c it will incorporate people who responded to their request for people to tag along with. (Saw the advertisement and even considered doing it, which was quickly followed by a self-slapping for such a hideous thought) Which means it will be people trying to aggrandize themselves on MTV to "look cool" or "start their acting career". Personally I don't give a fuck about the show b/c MTV isn't a legitimate source for anything that deals with society and culture despite what some people tend to think. Though as most people, I will watch it just to see what they say. But I am not expecting much quality.

i have off today so i think ill watch it and laugh my happy ass off.

they should let us tranceaddicts host the show....i mean damn if your going to go public with the "club scene" might as well do it the right way......right???

You are so right about this. But this show better be 1 hour long and not 30 minutes because MTV has those 5 fuckin 5 minute comercials. I also think it would be cool if they visit a bunch of clubs ,and not only 1 area.
Well hope to hear some respones after the show.

Gives clubs a bad name?....come on...clubs have always had a bad name...even back to Studio 54....and the government doesnt get their info from MTV.

To blame MTV for anything is ridiculous....everyone knows what goes in clubs already. Maybe you do not remember 1991-1996 when you would see more people doing drugs in clubs then drinking...not too mention my sister remembers the 1980s where people did lines of coke right on the bar....MTV won't expose anything that Peter Gaitien hasnt already in his super NYC clubs....

And?....that "IS" what takes place alot...MTV is just documenting it....i mean do you people forget Twilo...more drugs heads in Twilo then a Harlem crack den...

The documentary is about clubbing, not music....beleive it or not most people are not like us and go to clubs for the "music"...MOST people go to meet people and jus be with friends and get smashed...

MTV does kill music...i wont deny that...but thats not what this is about....it is called "True Life - I Am A Clubber"..not "True Life - I Am A TranceAddict".

Maybe te worst clubs...but the busyest....and trust me if MTV knocked on Arc's doors they would let them in....that would be major advertisment....

FUNNY!!!!

YOU bash it and claim it is bad for the "NYC scene" ( which died in the 90s anyway)...yet you are going to promote it by watching it....makes no sense....

Well it does represent American youth...very well in fact...not sure how you claim it doesnt....maybe not your lifestyle but for the most part they are dead on with their documentrarys.

^^good post Tiesto14. agreed 100%. mtv does indeed represent the common mainstream youth culture wherever it is. that's why mtv in holland will show tiesto@dance valley, because that's what it is: common mainstream youth culture. this will be about clubbing, not music. so everyone chill out.

politicsofdancin, why did you delete that flame so quickly?
