I personally dont think he has shit trance.... i bought his first cd.. and loved it.. its just different than what people are used to. And because of that people might think that hes a "biter' meaning hes trying to bite off someone else. As for him as a person.. i really cant say much. I have never met him or read anything about him. But i am curious as to what he is like. Paul Van Dyk shot him down.. wow. thats not like him to do that. I think that there isnt just a thing as shit trance. Everyone has different tastes... some more than others. I thik he deserves a great chance in the industry soo .. let him be

i think ATB's alright. commercial? yes but his tunes are still decent compared to someone like alice deejay or darude.

absolutely agree
He is a bit commercial, but I used to like his early tracks, like
don't stop!

I'm not sure if ATB is putting out trance anymore, but his latest double CD is cool to lounge with a girl. It's really relaxing... dreamy vocals...

hey i have 2/3 singles but i h8edkiller 2000 that was crap

Posted by amit on Jul-15-2001 17:46:

all i got to say. atb is a good dj. seriously when you see him live then you gonna be like wtf this dude can hype a crowd up! when he was at glow in washington, dc he tore it up! thats all i got say!

ATB makes commercial trance to make money. Hell, he has made over a million on 9 PM Till I Come alone. That song is on 6+ dance compilations. As a DJ, he is excellent.

Posted by Fatboy on Jul-15-2001 20:12:

I think his first tune was pretty good, but the second one was totally same.. Killer was horrible and after that i didn't bother listening to him.. The atb remix of airwave wasn't that bad even though the dutch force one was way better

Peace

At the last Trance Energy he was one of the best dj's that night. I didn't expect it but he has got great skills. But he didn't really mixed in the same style as the songs he produce.

I really like ATB as both a producer and DJ. Sure...some of his productions are a bit cheesy, but they're still fun to listen to. His sound is pretty unique and many seem to dig the guitar leads he used in his songs (I haven't heard some of his latest productions but I hear from people that he doesn't use the guitar thingy anymore).

I also think that PvD should not have shot ATB down like that. I've always looked at PvD as a non-arrogant person which puts him aside from other top DJs that are sometimes arrogant. For PvD that was an arrogant thing to do...he shoulda said something like 'thats just not my style'.

Is ATB commercial?

Well, I don't think that his first track (9PM Till I Come) was all that commercial. A bit cheesy maybe, but certainly quite innovative at the time. I mean it's not his fault that it was the victim of complete overkill from unimaginative Dj's world-wide, and before it blew up and became boring from complete overplay, yeah it wasn't a bad track.

But then he lost the plot in my opinion and sold out completely. All his tracks sound the same, and his first album (Movin' Melodies) was absolute shite. His music lacked imagination and inspiration and, again in my opinion, has all the hallmarks of someone who's only in it for the money. In my book he's on the same level as Sash and Alice Deejay (i.e. not worth considering if you take music in the least bit seriously).

I do disagree with PVD though, ATB isn't is a shit trance producer. He's just a shit producer. Calling him a trance artist is just giving him undeserved credibility (especially seeing as none of his music sounds particularly trancy to me in the first place).

As for his deejaying skills? Well I wouldn't know. Never seen/heard him spin.

i dunno about you but 9pm till i come was played over and over and over on radio here.

Posted by LiquidX on Jul-15-2001 22:06:

I like ATB, but many people have prove a point, he does music in like less then or in 30 mins, thats very cheap and efortless , while PVD and others take days to make a decent part of the song , or the song, if you know what I mean .. but ATB has been able to come up with very catchy flow of music, and I like it .

u says he is commercial trance. I say hes not even trance.

u r blurring the lines tween dance and trance. Alice Deejay, Vengaboys, ATB I think they are all dance music. Maybe ATB is more trance-ish but I still think its dance music.

Posted by Mark on Jul-15-2001 22:12:

its really just a fine line between trance and dance eh?
you're either it or you're not. personally i think he is trance.

Posted by Izzy on Jul-15-2001 23:42:

i agree with both tranceDJ and LiquidX.
i too have also seen him play a live set here in texas, and he was great, totally different from what he produces. plus one more thing i wanna add is that "9pm till i come" was VERY inovative and original for its time, dont forget it came out in 1998! thats a long time ago.

Posted by andyslong on Jul-16-2001 00:41:

atb poo

im sorry to say this but atb is complete and utter poo if u like him go and be a bar star and listen to pop music because that is wot he play and makes, im sorry to say that because i know some peap-le like him but he reaky is shite! long live GATECRASHER

Posted by flystyler on Jul-16-2001 00:44:

in 1998 there was a lot of good stuff, and look at 1999 it was the year of trance, so they were popular because it was a good dance song, not trance.

Though he hasn't produced anything lately, as a producer he's great. His new album "Two Worlds" is a quality effort. And no matter how commercialized "Till I Come" and "Don't Stop" were those songs are what got me into trance music.

As a DJ he is also really good. In fact I put ATB @ Trance Energy (2-17-01) into my top ten live sets list. I saw him live in Austin last March and he he dropped a really good set (but he didn't try his hardest like at Trance Energy).

ATB @ Austin, Texas 3-23-01 (What I could ID out of his setlist)
1. ATB-9PM Till I Come (Signum Mix)
2. Warp Brothers vs. Aquagen- Phat Bass
3. Marc Et Claude- Loving You (Dark Moon Remix)
4. ATB-Fields Of Love (York Club Mix)
5. Mauro Picotto-Proximus
6. Gouryella-Tenshi (ATB Remix)
7. Fast-Transmission
9. Delerium-Silence (Tiesto In Search of Sunrise Remix)

Pretty damn good track selection!

I like

I like ATB sort of
I really like him live
but his own music is ok but not my favourite
one of my favourite sets is ATB live at summer end rave

Posted by stamper on Jul-16-2001 02:02:

I agree that his first album Movin Melodies was commercial, and was nothing more than a money making scam. However his next album Two Worlds has a lot more skill in it, and i don't think is too commercial (apart from Fields of Love). I think the second CD of that album is terrific...just great chilled trance.

Posted by El Mariachi on Jul-16-2001 05:21:

I really liked the 9pm remix, but all his other stuff is just too mellow for me. The fields of love was pretty good- but when remixed :/ I guess to say in his favor tho- that the remixes still have his beats in them. But still, his music puts me to sleep.
