POP UPs!!!!!!! ARGGGG

GOD dayam!!! i hate pop ups!!! i leave my computer on all day, and when i get home from work i have over a dozen pop up advertisements on my window!!!! how are they doing this???? for a long time i thought you only get pop ups if you click on a link or go to a specific site that has pop ups... but now, its appearing even when im not surfing the net... well, i do have cable modem and my computer is constantly running... but how the hell are they doing this??? i tried deleting my cookies and my internet content but still i get a few pop ups randomly. this shit is really annoying!!!!

Same thing happened to me with Internet Explorer so I installed Mozilla. No pop-ups now! But some sites don't work properly.

Posted by DJ A.i on Nov-11-2003 20:48:

yea.. i'll give ad ware a try... i thought it might have been "gain" which is considered spy ware so i deleted the program that supported it and i still get pop ups... not as much as before but i still get a few randomly. do u personaly use ad ware?

Posted by klingklang77 on Nov-11-2003 20:54:

yup it is really good. i had that stupid mini camera ad popping up all the time and the first time i used ad aware it was all gone. try it and see if it works. also i dont know if you have kazza on your computer but that has been known to cause a lot of pop ups as well.

whenever i get back to my computer from maybe 5 mins, i have all these porn popups, and it annoys me.

i think its from my sister. not that she looks at porn, but i had a pw on my computer for ages, and i took it off, and ever since, theres all these porn popups. so now i have a PW again, but still popups, because i'm too lazy to fix it.

http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Download AD-Aware Personal Edition, run it, clean all the garbage off your system.

http://download.com.com/3000-2144-1...tml?tag=lst-0-1

Download SpyBot to remove the stuff that Ad-Aware misses aswell.

Using Kazaa? Download Kazaa Lite, at http://www.kazaalite.tk

Make sure your Antivirus software is up-to-date as well, run that to finally clean everything off.

Now, finally, to eliminate popups once and for all, download the Google toolbar at http://toolbar.google.com/

After that your popup woes should be over.

I've been using kazza lite, and I've found out (after the fact) that there were attempts to hack into my comp through kazaa. I don't know it could have been the riaa.

You could always download the google toolbar for internet explorer. Ever since I downloaded that, I've not had one pop-up. It's free, and works a treat!

get this pop up stopper

I use it and it kills all. If you need a site with a pop up, hold the ctrl button and it will come up

and btw its FREE

http://download.com.com/3000-7786-1...tml?tag=lst-0-1

Stop Netscape, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, and desktop pop-up windows with the latest upgrade of this small tool, now with added support for Mozilla and new technology to block Messenger Service and GAIN adserver desktop ads. There's no need to adjust proxy settings, or add sites to a list. Pop-Up Stopper will not strip Web images or slow your browser. You can allow pop-up windows only when you want them. User settings allow various pop-up notifications, such as a flashing icon or new, fun sounds. Simply hold down the Control (CTRL) or Shift key to allow selective pop-up windows; but most new links should open automatically. Pop-Up Stopper is not advertising supported, nor does it require registration, and no information is collected from or about product users. Pop-Up Stopper is very small and easy to use. It is complete with full install and uninstall, a complete setup wizard and online help file, and free unlimited tech support. This version features minor improvements and bug fixes.

You think it's that easy to delete GAIN?
It's like AIDS - it sits there rotting your PC from the inside, you only find out about it until it's too late and without AdAware/Spybot it's impossible to get rid of.
Even when you think you've deleted it it's still there.

Best thing you can do is download an alternative browser....alternative doesnt mean its crappy.

Google for Mozilla and Mozilla Firebird....the latter is the better of the two.

If you dont feel like downloading another browser or are limited on hard drive space then download the Google toolbar which also blocks popups

If you can't figure out how to use an anti-spyware program and a popup killer, then you're doomed to a life of misery on the Internet. If you're scared or unfamiliar with deleting Registry Keys, then use a RegCleaner. You normally don't get porno in your face unless you transit the sites, so where have you been surfing lately on your lonesome?

Hey, Chojin, how 'bout a date?

If you are on WindowsXP, you can save alot of hell by disabling messenger by doing this

start >> run >> cmd

net stop messenger

then go to

start >> run >> services.msc

Right click on Messenger and disable it.
