Sound Not Working

I did a whole system formatt, with a suppose reinstall of windows, using my hp system recovery programme, that came with my computer.

Ive used it before, and it worked fine. But for some reason, when the recovery had been completed, my mp3s, etc were all still there, my graphics card and sound card had to be installed. And now my sound dosnt work at all, its not even registering that i have any piece of hardware to deal with sound.

I took all my hardware out, which included a radeon 9800 graphics card and a sound blaster 5.1, i replaced these devices with their original counterparts, and did the recovery, and now i cant get any sound.

Any help anyone could shed would be very very much appreciated.

I have a 2.4 ghz with 512 mb ram, as my main speces, anyone wanting more info, i will be happy to supply it.

one problem i had was that i had to disable my onboard sound in my bios for the dedicated sound card to work. pres esc on startup and see if theres and option to disable the onboard sound, you can always undo this if it dosent work.

make sure you have the correct drivers installed. check the official website of the sound card company and download the latest.

This has happened to me before and this solution has worked everytime except once....when I had to buy new speakers.

thing is, it wasnt acting like the drivers were not working, the computer was acting like there wasnt any sound device of any kind at all.

search google groups, that's where i go if i have pc problems... always works! make sure you include the card model and all, try different search strings. the hardest problem is finding the right search string, but when you do, everything's easy (kinda )
