My decks & my computer
Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find anything using search.
Anyway, I'd like to route my tables through my computer. My friend has done this, but its not through his sound card, so the sound quality is pretty poor. Also, I'd like to be able to record some sets onto my computer.
Now, (please excuse my lack of proper computer terminology) I've got a pretty fast fancy shmancy computer with a good sound card, and all sorts of plugs & jacks on the back... I wish I knew what I was talking about
!
Any tips or advice on how to do this?
Thanks SO much for taking the time to help out!
Easy question.
Find the LINE-IN input for your soundcard (not the MIC input as that is boosted for microphones). Get an RCA to stereo 1/8 inch adapter and plug it into the line in from the record out of your mixer (or booth or master out, which ever you are not already using for speakers). Now get an audio recording program (like Audacity, it's FREE). Startup the program hit record and starting mixing! Easy.

someone told me once that the booth output on mixers is in mono. I kinda blankly agreed but wasn't too confident in that. I always use my main output for my computer input anyways so it doesn't matter.

It would probably depend on the mixer to have MONO on your booth monitor...
But the booth monitor output has less output than the master.
For exampple, here is the specs on my mixer for my outputs:
Maximum output levels
-----------------------
MAIN OUT +24dBu into >2k ohm load
AUX/BOOTH +20dBu into >2k ohm load
REC OUT +15dBu into >10K ohm load
