school sucks

seriously it does. I'm at U of T electrical engineering first year and I'm the most miserable I've ever been in my life. I failed both my calculus and programming midterms this week. Everyday seems like an uphill climb. If you are planning to go in this program, for the love of god make sure you're really into it or consider going into something easier. Or even do it at an easier school like Ryerson or Mac or something.

KarateKid

don't forget the 4 wonderful years of celebacy that comes with it too ..

Posted by Resnick on Nov-13-2003 03:36:

bah, im at uoft elec 2nd year, if ur having trouble now, second year gets harder...

seriously think about it, i know a bunch of my buddies who said fuck this and left, its not worth 4 years of ur like to struggle like this , just to do it the rest of ur life, seriously consider switching programs... (oh and just out of curiosity did sabri write ur calc midterm?? lol)

Posted by Skipper on Nov-13-2003 03:47:

Chin up. I know it's hard - I've been there - but it's not worth quitting.

Keep your eye on the end goal, and take comfort in the fact that you're NOT alone in how you feel.

I graduated from a 4 yr program in May and trust me, it's worth the suffering.

Posted by Form&Funktion on Nov-13-2003 04:06:

THe first 1-2 years are DESIGNED to be stupidly hard to weed out the chafe....are you Chafe? I didn't think so......get that chin up and start engineering me sumpin Electrical!!!

get ur ass here to Ryerson and try to do well. Other wise don't talk shit.
if ur failing at UofT, chances are u'll be failling here. Please do not degrade from the quality of education a univ. offers simply because u do not take the time out to make something out of it.
In the end i'll get my iron ring and chances are i will have a job just like any UofT engineer.

Please reconsider what u posted cuz i find it both extreemly arrogant and ignorant.

hahaha... im fourth year electrical at u of t lol... i wonderif ive seen u guys b4...

anyways, it only gets worse... i think yesterday and today have been the most busy for me this term... i need sleep... and i aint gonna be home for a while

Posted by bass drive on Nov-13-2003 17:22:

is it bad that I enjoy and do better on my electives, than my major courses?

damn boring economics

Posted by J.L. on Nov-13-2003 18:39:

don't worry... i'm first year mech engineering and i just failed my last materials quiz (15/40)... just get through first year and pass everything and you'll be fine...

btw.. what courses are you taking right now??

i got mat186,mat188,mse101,civ101,eng182
(i got the easier math heh)

HAHAHHA what a joke, Ryerson easier???
Get your facts straight before you spew that shit out!
We do pretty much the exact same shit you guys do over at UofT, we even use the same text books in many cases. My good friend High On PSI can verify this. We're both in 4th year, he's at UofT and I'm at Ryerson, and we've concluded that the programs are very similar, both in material and difficulty.

Anyways, 1st year is rough, but that's the whole point, to separate the boys and girls from the men and women. Does it get any easier? generally no, the only difference is that you eventually get use to life of an engineering student.

Posted by Resnick on Nov-14-2003 01:37:

uoft is EASY compared to some other school...queens has it really hard..my brother says hes getting 5 assignments A WEEK!!! this semester, ive had zero assignments, 4 'c' labs, 6 circuits labs (no writeup, its all done in class)
and like a midterm/final for every course, some courses have 2 midterms

thats it

Posted by oleshka on Nov-14-2003 04:10:

I'm 3rd year Electrical engineering at UofT dude. Unfotunately, ya, you gotta struggle a bit 1st year, but on the bright side, you are building up this stamina for working hard. You'll probably find 2nd year easier, not because there's less work, but because you're just used to it already.

but 3rd year... it gets hard again!! I already warned resnick to prepare by stocking up on lubricant!! and not just any lubricant, i'm talking high quality shit that lasts!

but guys, it'll all be rewarding at the end..... hopefully

Posted by kypez on Nov-14-2003 04:29:

Im planning on takin electrical engineering next year at the U of C. First year is just general course. Its great to hear such positive feeback

lol, And I thought I was the only one who enjoyed that sort of sense of humour... I say the same thing when it comes to massive assignments, exams, whatever.

kewlness: rofl, nice sig. i take it you saw those nge photoshops as well then

and to bassdrive: no, it's not wrong. to date, my highest grade was in japanese. i am a cs major, 3rd year. whaddafack.

currently i am ready to commit seppuku over this film studies paper: kurosawa's adaptation of macbeth, throne of blood. so much to talk about, so hard to focus on one theme.

May thy gods show'r arrows justly;
thine fountain o' being dusty.
Hecate, doth dwell in me,
Fuck, I'll play cs till 3!

why can't i put that effort towards school... sigh...

Posted by LKD on Nov-14-2003 04:46:

damn i didnt know engineering at rye is easy...wtf am i doin in retail management...

thats it..im gonna switch next year..enough of this bcom crap when i can get a BSc the easy way..ie. by GOING TO ENG @ RYERSON

Posted by discojoe on Nov-14-2003 04:48:

Advice to kids: dont go into really any sciences unless you are really into it and are certain that what you want to do. Its the same at any university buddy. Engineering is tough shit. I know SO many people who went into it by default and got a serious kick in their asses.

Posted by djshan on Nov-14-2003 04:49:

i thought it suked too, and it still does. but im going bak neways for the hell of it. one more week of work and then school.

id say that about any program

dont let ur parents presurize u into doin somethign u dont want to

3/4 of the engineering students i know didnt join engineering cos they wanted to

and if ur parents didnt presurize u, dont complain cos u knew waht u were getting into

hey! nuttin wrong with mac! we're 12th in north america for engineering (at least that's what they tell us, =P) as for ryerson, i worked with a 35 year old guy at this lawn care place 2 years ago. the guy was a lifer, like, stuck doing monkey work with punkass university students for LIFE... well turns out he had an engineering degree from ryerson... scared the shit outta me... but of course ryerson didn't have a certified program back then, =P. now i hear its all good...
