Slowly but surely

is Terrorism making its way to the very fucking center of Europe. It goes in circles (geographically, approaching from North Africa and the Mid East), it multiplates, it grows, it expands, it destroys. Like a virus (forgive the Agen Smith tone). A plague.
After southeast-asia, middle east, north africa, middle africa (Kenia twice, Tanzania ) the US it now reaches Europe. Almost smybolically, as the bombings occured in the European part of Istanbul. As if to show where the show is heading. I count the months until it actually blows up in our fucking faces. Can I quote RATM?

ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN) -- At least 16 people were killed and 146 injured Saturday morning when two cars laden with explosives simultaneously detonated near two Jewish synagogues in Istanbul, according to the Turkish interior minister.

Turkish officials believe the explosions -- which took place early Saturday morning on the Jewish Sabbath -- were a coordinated terror attack, although it is still unclear who is responsible.

Police are still investigating whether the explosions were the result of suicide bombers or remote controlled devices.

"No organization has claimed responsibility yet," Turkish Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu said, near one of the blast sites in Istanbul. "We are considering every possibility. Any organization could be behind this."

Earlier, Turkish media reported the Islamic Great Eastern Raiders Front had claimed responsibility for the attacks, but government officials in Ankara suspect the attacks were carried out by terrorists outside the country, possibly al Qaeda.

One car bomb detonated about a meter from the Neve Shalom synagogue in the crowded Kuledibi district.

"It appears that no one inside the synagogue was hurt," said journalist Andrew Finkel, adding that most of those killed were passersby. "There's still a sense of disbelief."

The explosion left a two-meter deep hole in front of the synagogue, Finkel said.

Shattered glass littered the streets where many small shops are located. "The facades of all those buildings have been destroyed," Finkel said. "The street is in ruins."

A local hospital was already full to capacity with wounded, CNN Turk said.

"It was a huge bang, my windows are full of debris. It shook my stomach," one witness living nearby told Reuters.

The Neve Shalom synagogue, the city's largest, was the site of a 1986 attack by the Abu Nidal terror organization, killing 22 people during Sabbath services. Security at synagogue has been extremely high since that attack.

The second car bomb detonated near Istanbul's Beth Israel Synagogue, several kilometers away, CNN Turk reported.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack and is returning home from a visit to Cyprus. Israel's ambassador to Turkey was also traveling to the scene from Ankara.

it always has gone on, and will always do, but i admit its gone on a larger scale since the start of this century

gee I guess terror attacks in Israel don't stack up as "some of the worst terror attacks around the world"

Posted by Cyrus King on Nov-15-2003 20:05:

i heard about this today. I think its dispicable.

I just dont understand why these people would do this? Other than the fact that they hate and thats what consumes their lives. Senseless death like this is disgusting.

Turks killing turks...terrorism is taking on a McVeigh quality now.

I wouldn't be so certain.

Firstly they obviously meant to target Jews specifically.
Secondly it is unclear the terrorist were Turkish.

you are right...it just seemed like that.

Youthink it could have been al qaeda doing this becuase of turkey's role in supporting the US during Iraq's invasion?

Could be. I remember reading that Alqaeda targetting new nations.

Actually Turkey rebuffed the U.S. in the Iraq war, I have seen in some places (BBC) where inexplicably the U.S. and Israel are to be blamed for these attacks, indirectly. I am puzzled by this kind of mentality, remove the U.S from the Middle East, remove Israel, and those who profess the rest of the world to be heathens will continue their savage display of ignominious and degenerate conducts of murder and barabarism, for they are intent on a brand of political control that will sink the Middle East into the Stone Ages, I hope that Muslims will wake up and eventually speak loudly against this.

Issues such as Palestinian statehood, Freedom and Justice in the Middle East are important but bombing innocents into eternity, will never yield a satisfactory outcome. Imagine if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Muhatmas Ghandi resorted to violence. There has to be something to learn from these people, I would hope.

Turkey and Isreal have a good relationship, they even shared intelligence in order to stop terrorism through the years.
Im 90% sure the terrorists arent turkish, lost of terrorists slip into turkey from the middle east do their work and leave thats what the PKK did for years, the east side of turkey is a wild place and hard to police by one side alone.

Yeah sure, just like the CIA was there too, as well as Mossad and the CIA were behind the World Trade Center bombings, the Kenya bombings, the latest Riyadh bombings. I wonder if Mossad and the CIA are behind the bombings in downtown Tel-Aviv and Haifa as well. All sound familiar, gimme a Break. Justifications for cold blooded murders and murderers will always be provided by those who want to find one, and ahlamalek, I am not referring to you specifically but all those who support this notion of grand conspiracies by Jews and Americans to take over the whole world.

Good post!

Oh wait, I'm sure you didn't even write that post. Apparently Mossad Agents got you and now post their shitty propaganda all over the board. You bastards!

I'll find the source.

I was just adding that info because it is ommited (how convienient) in your article. The two arabic dailies got a letter from Al Qaeda claiming that they were behind these explosions, in the same letter, Al Qaeda is claiming that these synagogues were refuges for Mossad agents.

Is it just me or Al Qaeda claims responsibility for everything, Al Qaeda as the source of hope for the Middle East is a scary thought, I am sure there are far more moderate Muslims than extreme Muslims. Al Qaeda intends to do nothing more than draw attention to themselves as freedom fighters for the Islamic World. I can only imagine Osama Bin Laden as leader of Saudi Arabia, can you say Taleban. If this is the brand of society that Muslims want then that is up to them. However you can forget about freedom and justice in such societies, ask the Afghanis. There is an old Turkish saying "Even snakes leave worshipers in peace," too bad these less than viperous scoundrels couldn't.
