Trance gaining popularity in the "Eurodance" Top 40 scene

7 TOMCRAFT Brainwashed (Call You)

10 RON VAN DEN BEUKEN Keep On Movin' (Timeless) (Since when was this ever called Keep On Movin' ? )

11 NALIN & KANE / N & K VS. DENIS THE MENACE Beachball 2003 / Cruising (Beachballin' Again...)

19 AYU M

22 DJ TIESTO Traffic

27 DAVE CLARKE Way Of Life (What the fuck is this doing here? This is actually a good song)

28 JOY KITIKONTI Pornojoy

32 ARMANI & GHOST Funk That

37 YAKOOZA French Kiss

Not all of these are trance, but okay.

Someone also told me they heard The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (Adam Freeland Remix) today on the radio right after the Top 6 @ 6 on z103, which means it must be pretty popular.

Discuss.

LOL @ THIS!!!!! everytime i read this i think of my sister in law putting my nephew down for naps. DOO-DOOS TIME!!!)

ANYWAYS didnt mean to hijack....but this has actually been goin on for a while now...hence why there was soo many ginos at Tiesto in June. Z103 has been tryin to tap into the scene for a LONG WHILE now, playin all kinds of commericalized trance andhouse, difference is, they play cheesy pop versions.

Posted by Rocco on Nov-16-2003 16:17:

Tiesto on radio? ~ponders for a sec~ Tiesto on TORONTO radio? ~ponders for a moment~ oh Tiesto on z103.5? WOAH some serious shit goin on...'

i personally hate the way they take a track and put cheesy vocals ontop of it. Rank1 - Airwave (innercity 99 remix) or the very first original mix that Rank1 did for innercity is my fav. Now i can't stand to hear it ne more.

So mainly, i try my best not to listen to what they play cuz it ruins my enjoyment and it degrades from the quality of the track. Everytime i hear the original mix, i think (EEEW i heared a cheesy remix of this). It's such a turn off.

Posted by Flec on Nov-16-2003 19:05:

is the vocal mix u guys are talking about the breathing 2003 mix?

.... i fucking love that track and its been played by enough well known djs

Posted by LiANG on Nov-16-2003 22:01:

Graham where did u get this list from? I wouldn't be surprised if it was from some music station in europe but not z103.5

This is a great sign.. Also, whenever I walk through the malls now, 80% of the stores are pumping some form of electronica, which is also a good sign. A new microsoft product, XP home or whatever, has an electronica theme song..

These are all tale-tale signs that electronica will crack the market soon. The days of 10,000+ events are once again upon us, wait and see....

Oh joy! The Zeeeee plays trance!!! Microsoft is using electronica in their commercials!!! And holy crap when I walk through the mall I'm hearing Benni Bennasi pumping out of Urban Behavior! And these are positive things? It will make our scene better? Create better music?

From a business perspective sure, the more people listening to trance creates a bigger market; Sells more records and creates larger events. But I'm sorry Commercialism kills music. It waters it down, creates a mindless mass of followers who consume recycled beats. Remember hip-hop before MTV got a hold of it? It was fresh, it was creative, it had substance. Now what? A bunch of wanna be thugs flossin' the fake bling and rapping about bullshit just cause they know that at the end of the day they walk away with the loot. I could say the same for punk, alternative.

I'm all for growth in our scene. I'd love to be front and centre in a sea of 10 000 people with Armin on the decks. But why not on our terms? I wanna go back to 97 when these parties did exist and it was still "underground" - and on OUR terms. Why does commercialism suddenly add authenticity to our scene? It doesn't bottom line.

In the end I don't really give a fuck. I love this music cause it does something to ME.

but i have to ask...do we really want that? Do you really want 10,000 people jammed into a club or arena to see Tiesto? I certainly don't want that...it's bad enough as it is right now with 3,000-5,000 people jammed into places like the Guv or Docks to see Dj's.

Its called a "bigger venue". Id love to experience a big ass party with that amount of people.

Smiley DJ Commercial Trance

Dont forget about ticket prices going up if the "normies" find out about trance

Posted by itikia on Nov-17-2003 15:47:

To be honest, the 'normies' will be the ones buying cd compilations, which will result in more money in the scene for the artists. Remember, if no one buys cds or records, the artists will on day stop making music.

Water it down? Sure, it will or at least some of the more commercial forms of it. But the underground portion of it will never die..

Yes we do want that. You haven't experienced a party unless you have experienced a 10'000+ party.

Trance is commercial in Holland and nothing bad is happening.

I have to agree w/ ari here. I'm glad that EDM is making a comeback despite the fact that it means more comercialism. As he stated the underground will never die. It's teh same w/ hip hop..yeah you have 50 cent making crappy music, but you also have dialated peoples and making brilliant music...and then you have outkast that is able to make unique music w/o following a formula and becoming successful in many circles.

We need a feeder tho. If kids are listening to 103.5 and they hear some trance a say 'wow, what's that?" and they end up going out and looking for it and learning about it, it will support the industry. and even if they do 'buy teh compilations' and attend teh big guv events. that's still hgood. it puts money into the hands of dj's and producers so they can make more music, some of which will be commercial and some of which will not. if we didn't have throngs of z103-type ppl coming to out to see tiesto, he probably would never come here, he'd probablt stay in europe. so...yes some of teh effects of this are bad, but ultimately (IMO) it's good for the scene that we love.
