single most meaningful quote/proverb/saying/adage for you

for me it would have to be this one by John Lennon:

"Life is what happens when you're making other plans"

the past few yrs. of my life have really proven the validity of the above to me and i was wondering if there were any such sayings you guys lived by...

second on my list would be the one in my sig...

"Wisdom is aquired by experience, not by age."
"I have two things in this world--my word and my balls, and I don't break em for nobody."
"Fuck you."
"OMGHi2u!"

But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man
and the life he leads?
- Albert Camus

for some reason i think that John Lennon quote is really annoying. i've seen it quite a bit.

"All are clear, I alone am clouded,"
- Lao-tzu

yeah, its definitely really well-known and heard, but that doesn't detract from the simple truth it expresses, something that we all have no problem identifying with im sure...

i'm really tired of hearing people quote Dave matthews or john mayer or tom petty in their profiles on AIM

thats really annoying.

aim profiles are gay

but they're such a dilemma

leaving it blank feels kinda lame

not changing it at least once every 2 weeks feels lame

finding good stuff to put there = hard.

The bigger the lie, the more people will believe in it. - Adolf Hitler

I would rather live a life with pain of knowing the truth, than to live a life with pain of knowing the lies. - cant remember who said this one

So telling of the man who coined it.. here's another one that's similar in that way:

"One death is a tragedy, one million deaths is a statistic" - Joseph Stalin

I really liked the golf balls and beer story

Id say there are a couple

"If you falter in time of trouble, how small is your strength?"
The only time your character strength is important is when things are tough. One of those "anyone can be a captain when the seas are smooth" kind of things.

and one on business from my grandfather

He said "Now I know you are Christian and believe in all these 10 commandments and such, but let me tell you; in business there is only ONE rule. its KEEP YOUR WORD. Whatever you promise you carry through on even if it was a stupid promise to make. Its called honoring your commitments, and as soon as you break one in the business world, youre dead. Youll over extend and promise stupid things probably 1 or 2 times, but always following through will teach you how to say NO i will NOT do that to your bosses and co-workers."

probably some of the most helpful advice Ive ever had. He went on of course, but thats the heart of it.

and finally "You know what the right thing to do is. Do it." My father.
