bonsai...... uh, the tree.

i was thinkin about gettin one of these for christmas. it would be a funky thing to put in my room and also be very spiritual and zenlike, etc....

so, does ne one kno about them, or resources for them. also doesn ne one know about what they represent (according to a very informative episode of saved by the bell, they made a reference to bonsai trees, and how you trim them means certain things...)

::begins looking for "bonsai for dummies"::

bonzai trees come from or derived from the Zen culture in japan...those things are pretty cool to have around ur room/house and stuff...i wouldn't mind getting one of those in the future

I was in the bonsai tree growing club in Middle School.. you can use copper wire to bend and shape your tree, it's pretty fun, I have a book about it somewhere in my house but I forget where exactly... But yeah, I'd definitely recommend them, they are pretty cool to have.

Bonsai originated in China and was adopted and given the name "bonsai" in Japan. The purpose is to replicate nature in small scale as realistically as possible. The various styles of bonsai copy how real trees grow in different conditions. A bonsai takes years to perfect and will always continue to require maintenance. Depending on what species of tree ou choose to plant and grow as a bonsai it can easily outlive you and potentially last centuries. I got myself Trident Maple and a Creeping Juniper seedlings recently and Plan to turn them into bonsai... altho it'll probably be a couple of years at least before they begin to look like bonsai.

...PS - Bamboo can be cultivated as bonsai.

Well, trees grow pretty slowly and don't change much, so you could probly get away with a couple of hours a month pruning/wiring/doing whatever to your tree and spend the rest of the time just letting it grow.
