HOOOOOOOOOLY crap look at the lineup on Arena 1 Could it get any better than this?????
The event will be broadcased over the entire Galaxy network (Galaxy radio online included) so tune in!

Awesome lineup! Bah, I wish we could have an event like this in TO

Posted by Skipper on Nov-18-2003 18:56:

Wouldn't you just rather have 2 or 3 of those DJs, each with a longer set?

These events always baffle me...you're not seeing the best that ANY of those DJs can do.

Posted by starsearcher on Nov-18-2003 19:07:

well I WOULD say yes except that last year I listened to Gatecrasher NEC live and I heard the most unreal 1 hour of Tiesto followed by another unreal hour of Armin Van Buuren...I think that's where the skill comes in...to put the best and squeeze it into one hour. You'd think youre not getting much but in reality its just a spectacular event that makes you beg for more

this is probably the first, and last time, i'm agreeing with you Skipper.

These events don't get me jealous at all. I prefer the events that we get here; at least the DJ's play long enough for us to get into their set.

And this will be the one i'll be going to I can't wait! Bringing a whole bunch of non-trance initiated friends with me to their first rave ever
They're good sports... hope this can make believers out of them

**edit**
i know the times are a bit hmmm strange to say the least but Dublin has this policy of closing clubs at 3... duno WHY they made it 1 am... i guess cuz those DJs have to be in Birmingham as soon as they finish up in Dublin

sigh, we will never see this in TO, and even if, the only palce they could hold it is Guv hence me not go.

Posted by starsearcher on Nov-18-2003 20:40:

I guess we should never say never...but definitely not in the near future. I don't think an event like this will draw the crowds it draws there and we don't have the organization (such superclubs) behind these events just yet. These events and music in general are just picking up speed here in north america and it seems the future is quite bright but we're still far from what's going on in the UK and Holland. Hopefully someday soon though...

Posted by Skipper on Nov-18-2003 20:45:

Guv charges $35 for Tiesto alone - this event will never happen here because people aren't willing to pay what an event like this would cost in TO.

The promoters would have to pay flights and fees and accomodations for all of those DJs and their agents, whom are mostly international.

I personally think these events are cheese - the DJ gets paid insane amounts of money for a set they don't need to build up or be creative with as much as they would a 4 hour set in a smaller venue.

Posted by loca on Nov-18-2003 22:38:

Just thought i'd mention this... (after seeing the posts)
There are only 2 big events in Dublin... that would be Cream Fields and GodsKitchen. We rarely get any international DJs here apart for those 2 big events... So yeah, they might be cheese to some, but for people living here it's the only occasion to hear Trance DJs play... We grab every little bit we get to hear I personally don't feel like flying over to England or Holland every time i want to go to a party... I'd rather stay here and hear maybe a few hours from each DJ, at least I'm hearing what I want to hear! As for the superclubs... We don't actually have any here in Dublin, don't know about England since i've never partied there but to my knowledge Crasher is taking place in some sort of stadium? Kinda like Sensation, really Now if Toronto decided to let the SkyDome be borrowed for a night to have something like that, you'd have your Crashers (is that even possible in Canada tho? ) I know GodsKitchen is in a theatre turned venue for the night
At least you guys get to stay out till 7 in the morning... everything here closes at 3am latest

Totally agree the party at NEC from Arpil 2002.
Mauro picotto's set from there was amzing too, with the little freaky sample from south park!!!

Than Tiesto, with summer sun and dropping silverbath, sounded so sick and cant forget the nice remix of depeche mode!!!

Usually the opinion of someone who hasn't attended said events

(yet still somehow feels the need to have a vocal opinion)

Do people accept comments made by people who have opinions on movies they haven't seen? Just based on a roster of actors (perhaps over the top talent, overpaid maybe?)

In actuality, these events are different. Agreed you won't get an 8 hour set out of Tiesto (because apparently we do anyways??) but rather dj's being EXTREMELY creative not to mention competitive in a party atmosphere which really can't be compared to anything else. The energy is 10 fold.

P.S Sarah, for all I know you may have been to a hundred NEC's, my wrong on that assumption. (also wemf does NOT count, that lineup is ridiculous)

that maybe true but 15000 ppl in an arena should b unreal ... not 2 mention the gatecrasher setup which from the pics look unbeleivable ... i can wait.. bought my ticket already

Totally agree with you there!! I've only been to one big festival like this and it has been my favourite party ever !

I can't believe you messaged me on MSN to get me to pay attention to this post.

When I go to parties, I don't go for the "energy." Because that energy is chemically induced, for the most part. Let's not kid ourselves here!

I go for the DJ and the music. And at an event like that, each individual DJs sets are obviously going to be sub-par to what they could (hopefully!) do if they had 3 or 4 hours. (Did I say anything about 8 hr Tiesto sets?)

Perhaps I just don't know enough trance or progressive, but with techno a good set is not made from an hour of just beatmatching records...it is made up of 3+ hours of sound layering, effects, complex builds that happen over time, not over a 7 minute b-side track.

All I'm saying is that these events are catered to people who go primarily for the party atmosphere and not so much the music. Any DJ will tell you that they can show you a lot more of their talent in 4 hours than they can in one. Now stop extrapolating and putting words in my mouth.

PS. I have never been to WEMF.

Thank Jon. You just proved my point.

Trance and progressive is simple enough such that a DJ can showcase their stuff in an hour set, and they don't need to build anything into a quality set b/c the records do it themselves.

DISSSSSSSSSS

bring it on people...I'm not afraid

Posted by rabbitjoker on Nov-19-2003 01:37:

Anybody got an extra cheap plane ticket, extra ticket to the party and room for 1 extra to tag-a-long at a reasonable price?

You are right It takes a virtuoso to create a good set from 50 piece of crap techno records

Hey lets not start a flame war....but i agree i would go to one of these for sure. Plus some Trance DJs start to trainwreck when they spin for more then 3 hours so a solid 1 hour set might be awesome....just from what i saw myself....i could be wrong....

Maybe its just me but i beleive that a bad vibe can screw up ur nite even if the music is good... but in most cases a kik ass atmosphere can more than make up for bad music ... fair enough maybe most of the energy is chemically induced but hey at the end of the day a good times a good time however so that maybe

To each their own. I find that I enjoy a party with good music, even if it has a bad vibe, much more than I enjoy a party with a good vibe and music I don't enjoy. If the music is great then I dissolve myself in it, not paying much attention to my surroundings.
