Behold, my arse.

i am in fact a foreigner.

Posted by AndskiSpeed on Nov-19-2003 17:39:

Stantons are sexier.

And belt drives arent as shit as people make out, I can mix realy well on my belts

Posted by Martin McG on Nov-19-2003 17:51:

how about the kam direct drive 700s?

it may be the DDX700s or something not entirely sure

they are only 250 and seem to have a reasonable amount of torque etc

try out dj empire direct

no matter what you, save your money and buy technics.
yeah there alot more expensive, but you'll end up buying them anyway and then you've spended money on decks like these for nothing.

Posted by Roddy on Nov-20-2003 11:55:

Go for direct drives! thats my only advice!!

Posted by DjSimonB on Nov-20-2003 22:55:

Ye, get the best direct drives you can afford. People say buy technics, but i'd only recommend that if you're either loaded or have the patience to save up the money, you can learn on anything half-decent without it crippling your wallet too much

Posted by jamie on Nov-21-2003 00:40:

get CD Decks!!!

Thats what im gonna do

Posted by gibbo on Nov-21-2003 00:45:

Save up and get technics it'll save u a fortune in the long run shit decks will only hold u back if u can wait wait and save up for technics

i have to say this guy is right, you will end up buying either technics or vestax (i prefer vestax personally).. but while you are learning i think you are better off on shit decks. it prepares you for the worst and when you make that step up on to technics or whatever you will find it a breeze.

dont buy belt drives tho, they react very differently to direct drives when you play on them.

to be honest tho, 250 isnt gonna get you anywhere. i spent 390 on a numark direct drive package, and i think thats as low as u can go to get even nearly decent shit decks.

and DONT buy from dj empire, they sent me a deck with the tone-arm bent, and they were pissed off about me moaning and made me pay the 15 insured delivery to send the fucking thing back.

I agree with Gibbo and DJRV, save up and buy technics.

It will get you playing better faster.

When i got my technics i had switched from soundlab belt drive(shit) and my skills got 10 to 15 times better within 2 weeks.

It's the only way to go

nah thats bullshit, you will have to mix completely differently when you go to direct drives and it would be hard to get used to. also demoralisingly shit trying to learn on belts...

oh, and the go for technics first time thing is a good idea if your wadded, however 99% of us cant afford 700 quid decks + 150 for a mixer first off

i dont think it will get u playing better faster, its all an illusion. all they do is infact make it easier. theres a subtle difference..

agreed tho, soundlab belt drives are gash.. i learnt on them

Posted by KilldaDJ on Nov-21-2003 18:41:

Unhappy

ack...it seems direct drives r the dogs nuts...

and its hard to find cheap direct drive decks...

Posted by Yella Fella on Nov-22-2003 14:00:

the main reason why ppl recommend technics is cos 99% of the clubs use them as they are industry standard. The other side is vestax decks. Not to mention the fact that they are top decks

Go into some dj shop with decks and try em out. For instance, fire up a gemini 500XL, and stick ur record on it, and put ur finger on the platter to slow it down, it will almost instantaneously stop, then try moving the pitch up and down, and u can hear the delay it takes for the platter to catch up/slow down to the speed change.

Then try same record etc on a technic 1210/vestax, and do exactly the same, not only does putting the finger on the platter actually slow it down and yet and the same time it doesnt stop it dead, unless u really press hard. But... it feels more rigid, and not likely to break down. Check the pitch too

Depends how u wanna go about it, see if u can spend some cash on deffo some direct drive decks and get one thats quite torqey

Posted by KilldaDJ on Nov-22-2003 14:20:

Question

so basically i want uber torque powah decks?
