FFX-2 ... thoughts/impressions?

picked this up first thing yesterday, as i've been anticipating it for a LONG time! also picked up the limited edition strategy guide.

the strategy guide is nice if you are a collector. it comes in a white plastic case type thing, with not only the strategy guide (with a collector cover that doesnt have any words on it), but also, an artbook with characters/artwork from FFX-2 *and* FFX.

the nice thing about the guide is that it shows you the 100% completion chart. i plan on playing it once through on my own, then using the new game feature to play it again with 100% completion (with help from the guide).. cause i want the perfect ending!!

ive only played the game for 2-3 hours so far, but im hooked. at first the game looked really girlie.. and it definitely has a different atmosphere than other FF games. the intro is REALLY cheesy/girlie, bear that in mind. pop concerts, and introductions to the characters with almost charlie's angel type freeze screens (with names). hard to explain, but youll know what i mean.

the same beautiful CGI, and slightly better "normal" graphics, especially with faces. the dubbing is MUCH better, none of that moving mouth shit when they arent talking all the time.

essentially so far, it seems this game is 100% side quests. i like that, cause i like side quests. you can explore anywhere right off the bat, and find tons of side quests! (though they count as "missions", which goes towards your 100% completion time).

i like the game also... sphere break. it uses 9 coins with different numbers on them, and a middle coin with a number. you want to get a combination of the 9 coins (their values) to add up to a multiple of the middle coin. then you can win items, coins, and more. i havent had a chance to play it yet, only practice... but it seems very fun and i didnt like the card game much anyways.

all in all, im excited to keep playing it. just do note that it does have a different feel than FFX... the FF end fight music isnt there anymore, and in general, the game has a pop-culture type shroud that might scare off some of the hardcore gamers (but not me!)

anyone else have likes or dislikes? please try not to spoil, even early areas in the game..cause it just came out

Well I'll post up here soon, I just picked it up tonight but my PS2 has a habit of being a stupid bitch about reading discs...hopefully it'll read soon

But it should be fucking great!

alright, here's one important thing to mention:

USE THE STRATEGY GUIDE to figure out which areas have things for you to do.

i thought it would be a good idea to not do this, and to go through every area, from beginning to end. (including places like mt. gagazet which are LONG and have a shitload of enemies). thus, ive spent about 10 hours so far just on CHAPTER 1, because ive leveled a million times in all these areas that i then found out, have nothing i can do.

leveling is fun, yes, but its starting to make me annoyed with the game.

so! i suggest even if you dont read WHAT you can do in the areas, at least look and see which areas even have things for you to do, so you dont get stuck leveling a bagillion times and start getting bored

Alright it finally loaded last night, and I do like the game. The whole Charlie's Angels theme is waaaaay overdone though. The dress sphere system is a good idea. So far all I don't like is the fact it'll only be those 3 for the long haul, you have no option of who can play.

I love revisiting the story from 10 though, they extended from it pretty well.

At first I thought that FFX2 sucked but after I got over the fact that it is not FFX it became a really great game.

Holy shit this games plot gets crazy. I love it, but I hate it since I keep staying up ass late to find out what happens next...

I love the game im addicted to it. Im trying real hard to get the perfect ending. What cover did you get on the limited edition strategy guide i got paine

Posted by farley on Nov-28-2003 08:33:

Just finished the game at 90%, but I might play it again to get the full 100%. I wanna see what happens after the "good" ending, but still I thought the story and game were great.

Bosses were a little too easy though, with a couple of dark knights and an alchemist you can basically put it on cruise control through any of the end fights and never come close to dying. Still, it's not as bad as how hard you could wail on the bosses if you were built up in 10.

Haven't played it yet, but my sister is. Glad she is so I don't have to see her face nearly as much now

I am currently in Chapter 3 with 54% complete. I can't continue much fyrther because my disk got scratched somehow (me banging the crap out of PS2 when the game doesn't load). I want to finish it soon, before I get a job at least. Hey pagoda if you didn't sell it already, think I could borrrow it so i can beat it.

Give me a call Niggs, you got my number!

you lot are so lucky its another 2 months til it come to the UK,im fed up of waiting!!

LOOOOOOVE the game... I love the battle system ALOT

Active Time Battle makes the game much more intense cuz u gotta make quick decisions otherwise ur dead.

FFX was fun but the battle system was way too slow.. I can sit there and plan out a strategy while my enemies patiently wait for me... not tht great...

WOOT WOOT iI got Rikku Cover on my limited edition strat. guide

Posted by daydreamer on Dec-31-2003 23:49:

got mine on christmas.
once you get used to it the game play it is good enough.
some of their actions seem a bit to quirky but i will let it slide.
i probably won't get the perfect ending this go around. trying to finish it quick before school starts.

does anybody think that guy is tidus

Posted by trunks1022 on Jan-02-2004 05:38:

dammit i'm still trying to finish ffx but have no motivation too right now. jecht keeps beating the bejeezus out of me in sin. and i bought ffx-2 a while ago.

Posted by Zombie14 on Jan-12-2004 02:55:

jecht is easy shit in ffx

Posted by trunks1022 on Jan-12-2004 04:20:

i think it's cuz my guys still avg only about 4000 hp. pretty weak sauce

Posted by marcus82 on Jan-13-2004 07:08:

FFX-2 is a good game, not the greatest FF but decent. don't get me wrong it is a worthy square production but the formula is getting a little tedious IMO. Those of you looking for a new combat system and want to drop $25 CDN on a underrated RPG look for Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter for the PS2....it's short be it's really good!

::BEAT GAME @ 100%, played twice::

Posted by ASOT100 on Jan-16-2004 11:46:

I just beat FFX-2 and the bosses at the end were waaaaaaaay too easy some of the bosses throughout the middle of the game were hella harder.

I enjoyed the game a lot in general, the dress sphere idea was great, I only got 67% done, I doubt I'll try to beat it again on plus.

Question: in plus do you start off at level 1? (i'm guessing not cuz u'd kill every enemy in the first couple chapters with like one hit)

Really fun game, only fault I see is it being so easy, this is by far the easiest FF of the whole series.

Posted by sothis on Jan-16-2004 17:12:

ASOT:

maybe you thought it was easy cause you only did 67% and didn't actually do any of the hard quests (the 100 level dungeon was no cake walk, for example).

yes, you start at level 1. but you start with all your old accessories/items, gold, dress/garment spheres, etc. you are pretty much unstoppable.

besides, if you only got the common ending (there wasn't an extra scene after the credits), you are really going to miss out. like i said, i dont know how they could possibly make it better with the 100% perfect ending, but if you didnt hear the whistling on the farplane twice and then talked to the fayth at the end of the game, you really will have gotten nothing useful from the ending.

Posted by farley on Jan-17-2004 23:25:

Just played through a second time and I can only get 99% because of a dinky little detail I missed in Chapter one the second time through...FUCK!

Still love the game though

Posted by daydreamer on Jan-19-2004 20:14:

just beat it at 60%.
i suck.
will get the 100% in the summer when i have time to play.
ending boss way to easy.

Posted by farley on Jan-19-2004 20:24:

Yeah, they are too easy. But if you go through the Bevelle underground dungeon even at level 99 some of the bosses can kill you in one shot. And I've only seen up to level 60 out of 100...

Posted by KidmoneyKrieg on Jan-20-2004 10:40:

Was fun at first, having just completed FFX, but it seemed like it was just a bunch of mini-games. Got through chapter 3 with the whole piano cliff thing then just got bored. Will probably start it up again once I finish the .hack series.
