Idea 911???????

Do you guys in other countries have "911" as an emergency number, or do you have some other similarly weird number?

Examples:

"Better call 777! He's having a heart attack!"

"Call 313! Michael Jackson has his kid on a balcony again!"

Actually in America they have a new number, "912," for your cat stuck in the trees etc.

Why is it any more ridiculous than any of the other numbers? at least its only 1 number to remember and not two.. like 911 .. or three like 912.

Posted by DarkFall01 on Nov-21-2003 03:55:

In the whole EU the number 112 works as an emergency number

Spain:
080 (capitals) or 085 Firefighters
091 and 092 Police (2 different kinds, national and municipal)
061 Medical emergencies

uh...
owned.

Posted by whiskers on Nov-21-2003 03:58:

btw, it's 9-1-1 and not 9-11 because some people used to look for key #11 on their phones

in russia & ukraine it's the same as in lithuania (probably the same in the whole former soviet union), 01, 02, 03

prolly cuz everyone had rotary phones... although 0 comes after 9 and 11, 12, 13 would've made more sense.............

Posted by blazed it on Nov-21-2003 04:11:

in hong kong it used to be 999 (but i dunno if they changed it after 1997)

Posted by arctic on Nov-21-2003 05:23:

000, astonishingly easy to remember.
