2003... Trance Reborn

I was sitting down and thinking of all the great events that took place this year for music, our music, and all the awesome tracks and up and coming producers making an impact in the scene today... some of the year's highlights:

Tiesto in Concert
Armin's and Markus Schulz's radio shows
Gabriel & Dresden's multitude of fine remixes and productions
Ferry Corsten's concert and Right of Way
Paul van Dyk's dynamic album
New Producers: Filo & Peri, Nathan Fake
Return of Agnelli & Nelson
Return of ATB.... well, maybe not yet
Sasha's fine edits and remixes
Luke Chable's explosive hits and remixes
Trance remixes extend out to Pop and Rock (annie lennox, britney, etc)
Infusion's Running up that Hill and JSOF tracks
James Holden going strong... Break in the Clouds, The Wheel
M.I.K.E. still going strong as well

It's been a great year for trance... much better than the last 2 years I'd say. Feel free to add to the highlights, or who you thought had a breakthrough year, or a type of a sound, or whatever.

I just got into trance in 2003...but its been an awesome year to me! I cant wait for 2004!

Trance was just HUGE this year, I think it might be even better than the good ol' 1999

I am so pissed I wasnt listening to trance in 1999 to hear that year in trance. I have heard some of music that came out of that year...damn!

Posted by Clyde77 on Nov-21-2003 05:06:

best year for trance so far.

2004 is going to be a huuuuge year for trance . 100% sure. I have such a good feeling and cant wait to see what it brings.

Yeah you can really tell the evolution that Trance has gone thru, especially this year.

I think each year has it's own unique quality, i cant say that one year is better than another.

Cant wait to see what comes around in 2004 though.

There's a lot of interesting and up and coming talented producers and DJs just ready to show Trance a thing or two

Thumbs up

ATB *sigh*

I wouldn't say it was the biggest year for trance, but it was a good year. A lot of good prog came out, mostly led by Gabriel & Dresden vastly changing things all over the place. Rarely does a relatively new artist or group have that many succesful and good releases in such a short time.

It was a good year though, thats for sure.

Well....other than all the AWESOME tunes that came out this year...I think this year is special to me because it's when I REALLY got dedicated to electronica. Started listening to new genres, did research on artists, got all the newest albums/tracks/sets, and just...stayed true and dedicated to the scene.

But no doubt, 2003 has been fucking SUPERB!

Dunno

Well I don't agree, I think this was more of a year to keep the music alive rather than progress. Sure we've seen all these things happening and return of artists....but, ask yourself, if the material they brought back with them is really good. I used to be the biggest Tiesto fan a few years back but then he changed his style.

yea, 1999 was when i got into trance and 2003 is the best year since; in terms of the number of quality productions, 2003 is probably best of all time. what's good is that trance is starting to get into rock and pop and the resulting productions are amazing. the branching out of trance is sure to attract more people in upcoming years. i'm happy most DJs try to do their own thing and there is more diversity instead of commercialization of one particular trance-like sound or whatever. all this being said, i can't wait for 2004

Music is timeless, the year is insignificant.

I agree that trance seems to have had alot more exposure this year and seems to be getting a greater following than ever. I put that down to the amount of wicked tracks that have been comimg out this year. There seems to be lot more emotional qualities in the tracks that really get everyone into the music.

I dont know if it will continue because people are starting to push new sounds. ie. Ferry with electro/funky trance, MIKE with cyber/darker type stuff and its not for everyone.

I see trance taking a walk down the techy, darker side of trance. Personally i love this new sound but i dont think it is for the masses yet.

Id say better than 1999, but not better than the sounds Oakenfold was creating in all those classic sets. Timeless for sure

Trance needed a Renaissance - Look at 2002. The worst year Trance could of possibly had. Such shit was released - Ian Van dahl/flip & fill/lasgo etc and all that belgium crap.
Trance needed to re-invent itself and rather Ironically the tune that all started it off again...........

Solarstone - Seven Cities (Armin Van Buuren Remix).

Posted by Sketch on Nov-21-2003 17:26:

2002 wasnt too bad a year if u discount all cheese.....i have to agree that brought trance waaaay down but this year has been an amazing year and has totally revived it.
I've been listening to trance for a long time and this has been a hell of a year and like many of you i cant wait until 2004, to see what Armin, Gielen, Ferry, etc. all come up with and bring to it.

Posted by Mebot on Nov-21-2003 17:48:

2003 seemed to be the year of classic trance remixes as well..

Verachocha -Carte Blanche 2003
Lost Tribe- Gamemaster 2003
Armin- Blue Fear 2003
William Orbit- Barbers Adagio For Strings (tiesto rmx)
Ayla - Liebe 2003
BBE -seven days and 1 week (ferry corsten rmx)
Binary Finary -1998 (ronski speed rmx)
Brainbug- Nightmare rmxs

A lot of classic tracks got reworked and remixed this year

Its been my fav year so far, but only cuz I finally got the chance to see some ppl live, so I dont have much else to compare it to cept mp3s . But yeah, lotsa awesome stuff happened this year, post more significant things pleez!

wheeeeeeeeeeee for gabriel&dresden!

Posted by Magnus on Nov-21-2003 18:53:

Couldn't agree more. The tracks that have come out this year just seemed to get better and better as the year went on. Now that we are near the end and I look back over the year, some of my favorite tracks ever came out this year. I can't wait to hear what will happen to 2004.

Posted by mizzuno on Nov-21-2003 20:56:

The worst year for trance was 2001...when progressive was all the rage
2002 people came back to their senses (aka solar stone, ronski speed etc etc)
2003....trance is far from dead much to the chagrin of progressive heads...

Hmmm 2003 was the rise of the progressive trance for sure.

But for the "trance" what so called club trance (or uplifting for pplz who don't know the meaning) is was a bad year IMO, I just listened to most of the club trance and got bored...meh

Prog trance owned all.
