Kill me

American history from 1783-1820 is SO fucking boring...wait, American history from 1492-1914 is SO fucking boring. there.

To be honest it can get a bit tedious, as a history major I had to study it. It however depends on your likes and dislikes of the different eras. There is certainly a lot to pick and choose from based on that timespan.

making some interesting history now

Might as well just say all American history is boring

Personally I find American history to be dull in general as well. Even post 1914 it's still mostly dull because all the action is going on in Europe. Don't tell anyone but I never took AP US history hehe. At any rate, the history I love the most is certainly 20th century European history. In highschool I focused on 18th-20th century Europe. Then in college, while I was pondering picking up a history major, I increased my depth in 20th century European history then branched out to Russia/Far East. Unsurprisingly I was most fascinated with 20th century conflict and strife ... go figure.

Love me some Otto von Bismarck, Prussia, WWI and WWII. Generally I did find European History a bit more interesting in learning it.

I took "History of North Dakota" as my hist. elective in college...

Could it get any worse?

Well I agree to an extent I found American history very interesting in these regards:

Its foudning as British colonies around 1620 (not really the colonies themselves but the companies who wasted millions setting them up in search of gold).

The enlightend "founding fathers" these guys are at the epoch of the elightenment era and created their ideal government. A real marvel full with interesting characters, rivaling philosophies, and scientific aspirations.

The war of 1812 - Canada fights the USA and kicks ass, how can that not be cool???

The Spanish American War - Cuban cigars pwn.

The Mexican American War - this time the Americans invaded Mexico!! And in the process they created the best state of the union - Texas

Thats about it. You could include the War of the Barbary coast where the US launched a naval operation against pirates which is pretty damn cool. Oh yea and how could I forget the civil war (yawn), many ppl really dig that for some reason.

Of course European history is much more fun since you deal with more nations, more diplomacy, more blood, more gore, and a well thats about it.

WTF happens in North Dakota? :P

There aren't really that many significant events/movements in American history. The result tends to be that U.S. history education consists primarily of teaching students large amounds of contextual data with dubious contemporary value. I found it quite boring as well.

Gimme the details on conflict and strife: How many immigrants were killed, how many indians were displaced, and how many battles were there?

North Dakota...*shivvers* I've spent 2 years of my life in that hell hole. Horrible. I don't ever want to see the american continent again.

North Dakota had a history? since when? guess i must have been living under a rock or something.

Well...lets see...

I think 7 people died and all 53 indians were intergrated with the French...so they look a little different now....uhm...and there was a battle or two, after lewis and clark went through and diseased them all. Well ok...I don't remember much about the class...I took it some 6 years ago.

I spent 5 years in Grand Forks, 4 at college and one more as a Flight Istructor. Winters sucked, the wind blew way too much, school was kinda lame...drinking was everyones hobby. The fishing and waterfowl hunting was great. The hockey team was awesome...I don't plan on going back.

HIstory of American Theatre, pre-Columbian through 1900.

My required theatre history class first semester of grad school.

There was not a single decently written play in that entire time.

Really? When were you there? I was in 1996-1998. I wouldn't be surprised if we've met back there concidering the size of the village.

i'm sorry to hear that...my condolensces to your mind.

myabe i hate AP U.S. cause my teacher is a nazi...? anyhow, all we ever do in that class is conduct case studies about people and their actions. we've been studying the goddamned Articles of Confederation for about 83.2 years now, and it's getting TOO repetitive.

95-99 and instructed until may of 2000. Resident of West Hall for the majority of the time. Yes, it's quite possible we've crossed paths. But again...there were 11,000 students....10,950 more than my home town in Montana.
