need some advice for a set im doing...

im djing at my mates houseparty for about 90 mins on sat night, and im not sure what to play. i could do a progressive-ish type set, bringing in some of the new stuff that ive got

or

i could play a rather predictable "anthems" type trance set with a few classics, eg 69 ways, lethal industry, and the "bigger" tunes of this year eg purple haze, atrc, traffic, nothing but you etc

given that most people at that party wont really know what trance is (not being patronising but thats the way it is at my university), the second option would probably be more energetic, but then again some might find it too over-powering...

given that the records arent a problem ( i can borrow loads of prog off my mate), what should i do? any advice welcome

cheers

mike

No point of playing Prog if they don't even know what trance is.

Actually, play what ever you like. If Prog is your style, then by all means, play it. As for as your audience is concerned, I'd suggest playing less "deep" tracks.

thats what i was thinking of, prog might sound too "slow" - if you see what i mean

well i doubt they will know good dance music if it bit them in the ass

i'd say just keep it up beat and on the cheesy side.
keep it housey/hiphopy
try to put in your own feel to it. start out with some stupid shit htey will prolly all like, then try to win them over to what is your style very slowly and upbeat. you'll never fully win them over, but try to show them a glimmer of the light.

use some fo the prog early in the nite when no one is there, just to kill the itme and have fun for yourself and as a sorta way to keep things "chill" (thats how they will see it) early before the party gets going
