Talking Results of the 2003 top trance TA survey

I had decided to make a mix of this year's top tunes, so I ran a survey this past week to select the 15 tracks that'll go in the mix. Thread was originally named "Your 2003 Trance Top 6". So here I'm just posting the results of the survey. Points were given 10-6-4-3-2-1 pts and tracks mentioned in no particular order received 4 pts.

About 60 TA's submitted posts and a total of 179 tracks were mentioned. Thanks once again for the input.

First number is rank, second is points gathered:

01 125 Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes [AVB Universal Religion Remix / Sweeping Strings Remix]
02 54 Andain - Beautiful Things [Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix / Photon Project Remix]
03 42 James Holden - Nothing [93 Returning Mix]
04 38 DJ Tiesto - Traffic
05 27 Agnelli & Nelson pres. Ultra - Holding On To Nothing [Club Mix]
06 26 Ron van den Beuken - Timeless [Ron van den Beuken Remix / Original Mix]
07 24 Armin Van Buuren - Burned With Desire [Rising Star Remix]
08 22 Paul van Dyk feat Second Sun - Crush [Vandit Dub]
09 22 Scott Bond vs Solar Stone - 3rd Earth [Original Mix]
10 22 Solid Globe - North Pole
11 21 Ferry Corsten - Right of Way
12 20 Bedrock - Forge [Original Mix / Fretwell Mix]
13 19 Ace's Delight - Mental Theme [Ace Da Brains Hell On Earth Mix / Ultra Trance Mix]
14 19 Nu-NRG - Connective [Original Mix]
15 19 Paul van Dyk feat Vega 4 - Time of Our Lives [PVD Club Mix]

16 18 Ferry Corsten - Indigo
17 18 Rank 1 - Breathing [Airwave 2003 Vocal Mix / Push Dub Edit]
18 16 M.I.K.E - Turn Out The Lights [Hiver & Hammer Remix / Original Mix]
19 16 Mauro Picotto & Ricky Effe - New Time, New Place
20 16 Paul van Dyk feat Hemstock & Jennings - Nothing but You
21 16 Pulser - My religion
22 16 Solarstone - Solarcoaster
23 15 Questia - Crystal Clouds
24 14 Blackwatch and Quiver - Loveless [Original Mix]
25 12 Firewall - Sincere
26 12 Oceanlab - Beautiful Together (Signum Remix)
27 10 Active Sight - The Search for Freedom
28 10 Armin Van Buuren featuring Ray Wilson - Yet Another Day
29 10 Cor Fijneman ft. Jan Johnston - Venus [Tiesto Remix]
30 10 Darren Tate & Jono Grant - Nocturnal Creatures

I'll take any suggestions on how to order the first 15 withing the mix itself, especially ideas for an opening and closing track.

Neat Idea, are you actually going to make a recorded mix available for download?

I won't comment on track order, mainly because I am not qualified and I haven't heard about 30% of the tracks yet .

eh well "recorded" is not the exact term.. i might play the tracks thru mixer just to see how they sound together, but first i don't have them all on vinyl and then i'm not good enough to do a decent live mix that those tracks deserve, so my plan is to mix them thru Acid 4.0. that's as close to decent i can get at this point of my DJ-career, haha

to answer your other question, yea i'll upload the rendered mix when it's done, just don't know where yet

But what?

Well, despite the huuge fall-winter backlash to the track, I think As The Rush Comes might have an unfailing grasp on Tune of the Year. I don't think it deserves it -- at least not first -- but that's how it's looking.

Yeah, so are a few other tracks on there. But we don't really have any definitive way of weeding them out. totev and I exchanged a couple posts about this in the voting thread.

yea it deserves to get in the mix but not at number one. well that's why i did the survey though... if i just mixed my own favs the mix wouldn't be representative

it was played in clubs earlier than 2003 but released this spring...
anyway i guess it counts what time most of the people associate the track with. half of the TAs that voted in the survey put Holden in their 2003 picks, you can't ignore that

yea Cobalt pointed that out too.
i seriously didn't know how to deal with all those on the border on 2002/2003, but i kept getting votes for them

the same problem will show up next year with the stuff that's starting to become popular now but will be released in 2004. you can't avoid that shit really..but i think what we have now is close to a comprehensive mix for the year

3. The Gift - Love Angel (M.I.K.E Remix)

yeah this list is utter ass. so many songs up there suck cock and so many classic tracks from 2003 were not included. scrap this completely shit list and redo the voting with more than a handful of people.

Well first off, what you said is your subjective opinion. Second, you'll probably find that any cross-section of TA votes will yield roughly similar results.

We'll find out for sure once the official voting for track of the year starts, anyhow.

And to whoever is going to be running that, be sure to make clear what is valid and what isn't, in terms of 2002/2003 tracks.

when they call to ask who you're gonna vote for president they call 1000 people who are supposed to be representative of 290 million and they get it right within fractions of a percent.

if you know a little about statistics a sample fo 60 is probably representative of the opinion of all TAs with a confidence interval of 95% or so.

especially with the high number of tracks mentioned, the chance a large number of people are now gonna start listing a track outside the top 30 and make it enter in the top 15 are very slim

i've added the two more votes since yesterday and what do you think that changed...nothing

maybe not in that particular order and with some 2002/2003 tracks excluded, but this is what we'll see at the 'tune of the year thing'. as much as one may like it or not, motorcycle will win the tune of the year...sorry to disappoint you

i only ran the survey so early b/c i wanna mix them over thanksgiving when i have a little more time on my hands. and i decided to start counting them b/c no one posted anything for more than 24 hours. but you're all welcome to keep voting, i'm adding the votes in, even if that doesn't change things significantly i'm not gonna discriminate against later votes
