What is the most popular music style in AUstralia ?

Is it Trance , techno,house , RnB , Hip-Hop or anything else i havent mentioned ?

What do most of the sydney, melbourne clubs play ?

breaks for sure.. house is pretty big too

Posted by Solstice on Nov-23-2003 00:21:

RnB definitely, its unfortunately the most popular form of music and will prolly kill our dance scene. Amongst dance music fans however, breaks or batty house is definitely on top.

Pop...

*shudders

Currently if you watch video hits & rage I'm willing to bet 70% of the songs played are RnB/Rap/Hip Hop shite.

Hard dance....

Its Pop or Top 40. The stuff that they label R&B but is really Top 40 (eg. Ja Rule, some of 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg etc) cus most R&B lovers don't even like this commercialised crap anymore.

Definately RnB

Posted by djway on Nov-23-2003 05:43:

From a commercial point of view (IE those who aren't into EDM) RnB/Rap/Hip Hop is the most popular style.

The majority of people who listen to EDM in sydney listen to either breaks or house.

Trance/Prog/Techno/2 step are all less popular.

This is a SYDNEY point of view.

and house nights seem to be popping up left right centre. so many ppl want to be associated with the "glamour" of house

Posted by gumble on Nov-23-2003 06:46:

house is sexy

doesnt matter how much other music i listen to, i always come back to house.

adelaide is fucked.

for the general public, SAFM / MMM stysles rule (RnB, pop blah blah, like everywhere else)

in the clubs house for the "trendy" ppl, but then hardcore is huge.

there is big hardcore following here, ive heard the largest in aus????

im not talking hard house either, its the hardcore, rotterdam kinda shit.

yer, so kandy ravers everywhere at events, drum and bass is also huge among these ppl.

Posted by DJ SOLACE on Nov-23-2003 08:40:

Yeah Adelaide is a hard dance and drum n bass town. Both these scenes are amongst the strongest in the country. Leaving trance pretty much no where here.

Posted by wick on Nov-23-2003 09:19:

how is it house or breaks?
how come at two tribes or whatever main event, the main floor is basically only trance (either hard, uplifting etc.)? while house or breaks are in the shitty side rooms?
i could be totally wrong but yar

Posted by OLi_A on Nov-23-2003 09:21:

my definition of rnb is nothing like what is played at clubs
rnb doesnt bounce, if it bounces its commercial hiphop
rnb is cool
but in answer to your question there is a broad range of music in sydney but once you leave the city its top 40, terrible terrible top 40

Posted by A.J. on Nov-23-2003 15:52:

I hate to say it but i think that it is RnB
(RnGay as i like to call it).

RNB/Pop is easily the most popular.

Lets face it: we are a nation of wiggas.....

r&b... everyone wants to be an american sadly

Nelly, Jay-Z and the like isn't hip-hop or RnB, it's just pop music. Pop music dressed up and sold to gullible kids who think they're being so different to everyone else.

Unfortunately it's extremely popular, I've no idea why.

Posted by TiksA on Nov-25-2003 00:10:

Lol you don't know why?

Its becuase you see ten almost naked chicks shaking their booty on one guy whos singing about his bank account... with hot cars, huge houses, gold chains while alcohol and money is flowing everywhere... so the kids think if they listen to that music and go to parties, its gonna be JUST LIKE THAT!

The situation is just sad really, Australian's trying to copy a lifestyle we haven't experienced & know nothing about. Were not black, we didn't grow up in the ghetto, we don't kill each other everyday & we don't wear clothes 15 sizes too big.

How do these little wigga's associate themselves with this "scene" ??

I have no fuckin' idea !!!!
