PVD - Past His Used By Date?

Your Thoughts?

One bad album doesn't necessarily mean he's losing his touch.

Posted by Lost Inhibition on Nov-23-2003 05:03:

why does everyone consider reflections a bad album? its pretty deep and mellow, a side of pvd we dont normally see when he performs live. ehh you know ive gotten tired of trying to defend this album. i think its good overall imo. paul hasnt lost his touch, despite people saying otherwise

Posted by Excite on Nov-23-2003 05:23:

he's past his prime but i still consider him a great producer and dj..

agree...good album

but about paul hasnt...ya hes lost it a bit... sorry man

Mmm...I reckon it (Reflections) was terribly produced. Seriously, he used all the cliche 'fills' n 'conventions' (i dunno the proper terminology, but hopefully these two will suffice) that is in all 'mellow & deep' music. Oh well, I'm glad Out There and Back has stood the test of time with me as I'll just continue to consider that as his latest album, heheheh..it's such a solid 70 minutes of music!!

Posted by Excite on Nov-23-2003 05:30:

reflections is very commercial compared to his past albums. and one of the few good tracks "Crush" is actually produced by Second Sun.

He's moved with the times and so should you. Get over it. What a shit and pointless thread. And yes, Reflections was not a bad album.

I agree

Reflections was on par if that. I think he was trying too hard and came up with an average cd. He still goes nuts though !

Album sucked but PvD live is better than ever.

Actually, he hasn't. He's still recycling the same sounds and ideas that he was doing 5 years ago, only they worked better back then.

Posted by noikeee on Nov-23-2003 11:28:

as a dj, dunno, i don't have many sets of him. the ones i got impressed by the mixing skills, probably the best i've heard on a trance dj, but i just don't like his track selection.

as a producer.. err.. he's over-rated as hell.

If you mean teknoscraper, he has actually been banned twice before (remember Bedrock and Slade?). As for the assertion that he should be banned, I disagree, his posts are clearly not serious half the time, and generally create some pretty funny replies. Leave the bloke alone

Posted by rafale on Nov-23-2003 12:08:

IMO pvd is not past his prime. He may very well be in it. I think you should see pvd live in order to fully understand that. The man is just as capable of doing what he does as back then, if not even better..

Album-wise, Reflections may not have been as good as his previous ones, but to say that he has 'expired' is unacceptable. His presence is still very much a driving force in the industry.

Your cause for concern is noted, however one distinction must be given between my posts, and that of a troll.

I for one, am not out to hurt the feelings of fellow board users. If I have done so in your case, I deeply regret it. I have no regrets, however, about starting slightly controversial discussions about relevant topics in order to keep the cycle of musical discussion healthy.

I'm not starting threads about "what if God was at a club" or "what is a ch00n". I'm actually starting mature threads, for mature people, who are willing to discuss the point at hand. If my threads require too much brain power on your part, then perhaps you should focus your attention on another thread.

Thanks again.

The answer is simple. Because it IS bad.

Even though I am a PvD slut I still have to say it is bad.

Posted by madclubber01 on Nov-23-2003 16:20:

i don't think he's past his best, there's still lots to come from him i reckon. His latest album is nowhere as good as OTAB though

Why do people here keep discussing the same themes over and over again.. I mean, how many hundreds of TAs already said that Reflections (or any other artist album, compilation, or track) sucked or roked in the last 4 months? Geez... You all sound like kids that want to be cool by stating your opinion about this or that track/album, but at the end, nobody really cares about what you or others happen to think, and these threads degenerate in an awful way. Sometimes people need to grow up, and avoid such "discussion", but alas this is not possible. Apparently, such lame threads and lame replies are here to inscrease your post count.. Sad.. ;(

Now if you want to discuss Reflections or the fact that PVD sucks or rocks, use the fooking search button and join-in the previous PVD or Reflexion themes, like the one in the reviews section. God I'm sick of reduant threads.. ;(
