Trance Is Dead?

Is progressive taking over the world?

Your thoughts?

Posted by gumble on Nov-23-2003 05:12:

welllll......

trance isnt dead imo, it is now prog, so trance is now living in prog and the BEST GENRE EVER, PIXIE TRANCE.

whats left that is called "trance" is pretty much eurodance.

trance and all that journey crap really now only applies to prog, as that is the journey agent, not this eurodance cheesey trance.

i usually dont mind prog.. but i thought sander was extremely slow and boring

Posted by gumble on Nov-23-2003 07:59:

i think im more on these boards for the people than the music.....

Sorry buddy, but progressive is definately having a bit of a bad run of late. Yes Sander may have been packed( youll get that when one of the worlds best in any style is playing) but most other prog nights around the country have been strugling. Even Melbourne town (home of prog in Australia) is going through a transition stage.

Trance on the other hand is slowly making its way back into peoples lives. Its certainly not huge or anything, but considering only a couple of years ago trance was laughed at here, its only getting better.

We are on tranceaddict, and we talk about prog about as much as trance now[not everyone, but a lot of us]. Surely that's a sign, at least in our own personal development that we are moving onto prog era. There will be more standing in the wings of trance to take our place, no doubt, but for at least a few, our days of trance are over.

It's just evoloution baby!

PS step 3, if you stay in the scene for long enough, is techno. Don't want to spoil the journey for any1, but yeah....

Posted by Beemer on Nov-23-2003 09:59:

trance will always hold a special place in my heart....but rite now, for me, it's definitely taken a back seat to prog - seems to be the same for a lotta ppl i know......but like djway said tho, it's evolution....natural progression.....variety is the spice of life!!

i'm not so sure techno is the third step for everyone tho.....trance to prog seems a natural progression - they're like 2 steps on the same continuum.....but techno doesn't seem to me to be on that same continuum - seems to me that it's a completely different ball game to the other 2, both technically and emotionally...........and i know some ppl who've been in this scene for a loooooong time, and done both the trance and prog thing, but still have never ever gotten into techno.....so yeah, i wouldn't say it's the third step.....

Sorry to hear the perth sander gig wasnt that greta but the Sydney one was FUCKING AMAZING!!!!

As for Sydney, True Progressive is doing far far better then Real Trance (and im not talking hard trance cause i think we all know that its shite...)

Sweetchilli is one of the most successful nights in Sydney, selling out at almost every event! Halcyon unfortunately isnt.... and apart from Halcyon i dont know any other successful trance nights, where as between Sounds and Sweetchilli weve had out here every top line prog dj in the last year and the events have always been superb (James Zabiela, Sander, Dave Seaman, Danny Howells, Lucien, need i continue?)....

Prog is definitely taking over in Sydney..... Now its trances turn to catch up!!

trance has never gotten old or boring to me and ive been listening to it for about 7 years now. i definately dont see it dieing, infact i think this year has been a huge comeback for trance!

i generally listen to pretty much everything.. gone thru heaps of stages of liking different genres.. but trance has always been no 1.. and i dont see that ever changing

prog is definately growing.. but then again so is trance. just look at the support its getting compared to what it use to, and theres so many events coming our way.. in the space of 2 months from january we'll have the worlds 4 top trance djs in australia and many more in that same time..

personally im loving every minute of this.. and i cant wait to see what 2004 has to offer!

Trance is far from dead.

Personally i like both.

I agree trance isn't dead. The scene is grwoing in size australia wide nights have popped up in the last year to support such music. Trance is growing (just some of us are changing @ the same time )

Personllay I feel real trance died in 98.

so this thread is pointless. But I still think there are trance elements still used in House music (and to good effect).

Posted by eRRaTiK on Nov-23-2003 13:03:

i think you need to be specific when you make a topic like this. progressive trance is still "trance" or a sub-genre of trance. then there's psy, goa.. and the rest.

trance of the uplifting nature (anthem trance) is well alive, but not as prominent as say a year ago. the scene has become more prog of late.

however, the trance of 98 (original trance?) - and the tranceport era - has well passed. it's more of a combination of prog, house, and other genres these days.

every halcyon i've been to i've enjoyed, sure it's not as big as sweetchilli but it's still kickin' and PVD played Gas earlier this year and that was just.. amazing to say the least.

never fear all you lovers of the uplifting genre.. just wait till 23.01.04 Sydney.. you'll see what I mean

Actually I think it's coming back slowly, quality from artists like Agnelli & Nelson & Signum is returning to help us, and I'm glad, cos progressive is boring for a lot of people who like their tempo in the music, and the american 'trance' is shit boring, but there's enough from other artists to keep us happy, just cos you don't like one style though, it's bs to say it's dead, as it does do it for a lot of people and when people get schulz & gabriel & Dreadful out of their system, we might be left with good music

Posted by muli on Nov-24-2003 00:27:

I dont think its dead, far from it really.

What i think is trance has split in two directions. The prog direction, and the tougher techy direction.

Armin has taken the progy direction, and tiesto likes this a little but he is pushing the harder techy sounds aswell.

I love prog as much as the techy trance, ive kind of lost interest in the fluffy trance, but there are still some good tunes out there, just not as many as before.

So personally its great for me cause trance is splitting into the two types i love.

I must admit, the light is getting brighter for me...

Posted by Mangler on Nov-24-2003 02:19:

I must be missing something? prog had its day about 3 years ago, then Digweed bored the fuck out of us, and the rest of them got too intelligent for us & took us on a journey that we fell asleep in as soon as the needle hit the record...
prog taking over.. bwahahahaha!!! it's what FUCKED the Melbourne scene in the first place & we're just starting to recover now.
