Abercrombie & Fitch up to no good....

just found this. sorry to those who do shop there...check it out tho. in a nutshell, A&F new xmas 280 pg catalog aimed at 10-13 year olds contain 120 pages of sexually suggestive pics of models (adult males & females). basically softporn, which wouldn't matter if the damn thing wasn't geared toward kids.

pic of catalog here:

i kno a lot of u guys will buy it for the hot nude chicks, but keep in mind...this is for KIDS! WTF!?!?

edit: ok, it's not directly geared towards kids...but catalog contains kids' line of clothing. regardless, it's a little too blatant a usage of sex as a sales tool. to each their own i suppose, but wuteva. ur decision.

And this is a fact? I doubt it. A&F is late teen - early 20's clothing for the most part.

Posted by Shad0wmaster on Nov-24-2003 20:06:

the point is that A&F, and their clothes, suck. fucking overpriced shite, lots of people buy it just cause it says Abercrombie & Fitch on it. tools.

so what is the big deal?!? I think you need to relax a bit more. it's like saying "omg my kids have seen a semi-naked person, they will rot in hell"...

little kids play around nekkid in the friggin pool, so what is the big deal. Sex sells, we all know that. It is one of the most fun things people can do, so why see it as so WRONG...

Parents are getting a wake up call as to how screwed up the younger generations are becoming. And don't give me that " it's cool to be into that stuff when you're younger " cause clearly it is not. You are young and it's better if you can preserve your innocence as long as possible for multiple obvious reasons.

Speaking from personal experience living in suburbia and all I know that A&F has created an extremely bad image that young girls and men are trying to follow because they have nothing else to build their personalities with. Not to say anything disrepectful torwards the female gender, but a lot fo the younger girly crowd has no clue how they are attracting men and accidents are bound to happen when the body says YES but the little voice might say NO. ( ok I apologize for this stereotype and I wish to say I'm not wanting to start a flame war).
My father who is into business as well as a pastor has been in shock each time he's had to work in a mall for the last year or so when he sees how chicks are dressed. It's freaking worst then in clubs at times. NO JOKE! :/

Damn decadent society

According to the snopes article people are being asked for ID to purchase it (have to be 18+) and theres a warning inside: "DUE TO MATURE CONTENT PARENTAL CONSENT SUGGESTED FOR READERS UNDER EIGHTEEN."

Whats the big fucking deal? Oh no your precious 13 year old is potentially going to see suggestive photos... well heres a newsflash, most 13 year olds have already seen porn, either on the web, at their friends house, in dad's secret box on the top shelf of the garage, etc. Hell, theres worse stuff on prime time cable. If your kid cant, at age 13, distinguish porn and suggestive pictures from reality, then you've fallen behind a few years in your parenting IMO.

Kids will always follow trends, I wouldn't say because they have nothing else to build their personalities with, but because it can be rough to grow up "outside the crowd." For most of them, its just a phase. The smart ones will figure out on their own eventually to embrace their own individuality. I tell you this from experience.

I agree that a lot of the younger girls are growing up too fast, but we shouldn't blame the clothing, of all things. If young girls cant figure out not to act like sluts for guys then its only by the ignorance of the parents. Sex, drugs, peer pressure, and trendy clothes will always be there, and kids will find all of them on their own no matter what. Its up to the parents to teach the kids reality from media fantasy, but never to try and totally sheild them from all of it; you're only going to cripple them for life.

Btw, A&F do actually make really good clothes. I'm not an Aberconformity whore by a long shot, but I've got a couple of their shirts and pants/shorts, and all of them have lasted 4+ years of hard wear with zero tears, collar stretching, etc. They got some nice shit, if you can get past the legions of walking A&F/RIAA/McProduct advertisement kids

I don't have anything against the campaign per se, but this:

Is important, and it's a very good point. In a lot of European countries, for example, this type of thing isn't a big deal because of the sexual freedom there. In a sexually repressed society like most of North America, though, this can get people into trouble. The kids grow up becoming more and more curious about it but still think deep down that it's "wrong" and are ashamed of it.

So we get into this twisted situation - little girls wearing skanky clothes who are totally not emotionally ready for sex because of the society they live in.

How to reconcile this? I'm not sure...

Posted by DaveSZ on Nov-24-2003 23:02:

You have to be 18 to buy those catalogs, so it would be hard for a "kid" to get one.

Posted by butterfly on Nov-24-2003 23:06:

i wanna see the catalog.

and i agree with drizz, this is not a big deal.

You do realize that worldnetdaily is an extreme right-wing media source correct? For example, this hatemonger is one of its editorial writers:

quote:
"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"

--Jerry Falwell talking about the Sept. 11th terror attacks

That's not to say you shouldn't read worldnetdaily, and in fact I would argue that to be balanced you need to analyze issues from different viewpoints...
But, you must be able to recognize bias when you see it. Yes I do read some of their articles too.

Their catalog was one of the major news headlines last year for the same exact reason. You think they'd wise up and change it. But of course they wanna look like a "rebel" company going against the media and push limits.

I'm not saying that their concept is bad it's just stupid that it gains so much attention. Their clothes suck anyway.

that is exactly what marketing wants.

Posted by rb2k1 on Nov-24-2003 23:51:

abercrombie has 2 divisions.

Abercrombie and then abercrombie kids.
They are 2 different stores.

The (nude people) catalog sits in the adult store at the registers where its wraped in plastic with a warning on the label that reads something to the effect of 18 and above only.

They also have another adult catalog without nudity, along with a website to display their clothing.

As for children they have their own childrens catalog and a website for the abercrombie kids sites.

Come on.. what else can you ask for.

Everyone is getting a bit uptight if you ask me.
