Talking George Acosta

I've known little about this great South Florida DJ up until this September. I remember a while back he did Trance Nation 2, which didn't catch on me. Recently I got a hold on some on his livesets @ The Lost World, which are fantastic, I'd say! Also I got Release PM Edition CD, which is fabulous!!! Anyone around here likes George Acosta, cause I haven't noticed anyone mention him in the forums - VERY UNDERRATED DJ WITH LOTS OF TALENT AND GREAT MUSIC! What do you TAs think?

As far as I can tell Acosta is in it for the money and fame. He churns out mix compilations with the same old blend of uplifting anthems, with no personal style or innovation, and complains about not being put higher up on event lineups.

Posted by hardstyle on Nov-30-2003 17:57:

heh

Thats becouse they wont give him Donuts.

Oh, I see what the fuss is all about ... he is still a fine DJ. You'd have to admit that he's not the only DJ in it for the money ... so far I noticed that he has great mixing skills, fine track selections and a definite pattern of music. That is, he is not like all the DJs out there. ... right?

Posted by Evil_Gnome on Nov-30-2003 18:14:

I think that he is ok. Some of his GDJB are good, others not so good. He is overall just ok, nothing special, IMO.

I agree.

I really like The Next Level, but apart from that his stuff doesn't really appeal to me.

In the liner notes of Hybrid - Wider Angle, they write:

quote:
We would like to thank everyone involved ... especially Rockit Cargo who managed to transport half of our studio around the planet and get it back in one piece. Absolutely no thanks to DJ George Acosta

Does anyone know what this is about?

lol, i remember hearing about some Hybrid vs. George Acosta gossip, but can't remember now what happened. some dissing and fighting over who was the headline act at an event perhaps?

Great DJ. "The Lost World" is an awesome listen. And yes, I'm one of the people that joke around in the GDJB chat as well... >.<

we have a polls section for polls though, it allowed us to release coup on conditional bail that he moderates it, by not posting this there, he cannot work and may end up back inside, won't somebody please think about the coupie ?

Acosta is total crap. I don't understand what people see in him other than the fact that most of his traclists are 3-4 years old which I wouldn't have a problem with if they were actually good tracks but they are usually shit. His mixng is far from good, in fact I have seen him just trainwreck and cut the bass so no one knows he is wrecking. He is also known as being a complete dickhead and egomaniac. He has been a no-show to several events because his name wasn't big enough or high enough up on the flyer and he always has the club rope him off from the people so that they dont annoy him. He had a bad gig at Glow once so he decided to pour a glass of champagne on the cd decks. The guy is a total classless POS and a horrible dj to match.

Gotta agree with everyone. As of recently (last couple of years), Acosta has turned into utter shit.

There was once a time when Acosta was a good DJ...but money and fame can change anyone.

Posted by mto on Nov-30-2003 23:26:

He's okay. Chris Lawrence does more for trance in US than George, but people don't notice that.

That sounds extremely shocking ... I wouldn't be able to make such a conclusion after listening to his Live @ The Lost World sets though ... but, since more than 2 people have been pouring out similar comments, I guess I have to believe them ... (shocked)

Yes, I am well aware of the Polls section, but this thread is more of for discussion than for a poll ... poll is a secondary option - and just look at the options - WHAT KIND OF A POLL IS THAT? So, I decided to place this thread in this forum, which I think suits just perfectly ....

Posted by farley on Dec-01-2003 20:15:

if they were arguing over who should headline then hybrid is of course the obvious answer

Posted by Dj Dizzy on Dec-04-2003 15:55:

i like his style and cd's, but i dont like the man himself, he's a stuck up piece of shit in my opinion. i dont know him personally but judging from his behavior ducking out at shows when i was in miami for ultra just because he didnt feel like doing the gig. thats some wonderful dedication to his fans, one of my friends is a huge fan of his and went to ultra with him in mind and even went to another venue down there because he was headlining, guess what.. he ducked out on em both.
then i saw him when he came to atlanta and he had an arrogant pissy attitude about him. one of the local trance dj's that opened for him that night said he was stuck up as hell too.

i own one of his cd's but i bought it back before all this happened when i used to like him, now i have no respect for him whatsoever.
so even though i do like his stuff, i voted that i dont like him

Posted by Dj Dizzy on Dec-04-2003 16:02:

like Redeye said earlier he cant mix for shit
i'm sure he can if he wanted to but he doesnt care so he just slaps his songs back to back, worst fucking mixing i've ever heard in my life. i wanted to go up there and punch his pudgey ass in the jaw

its ok though Brandon C and Kazell saved the night!
