Yoga?

Does anybody do yoga? My friend at school said I should do it but I laughed and told her fuck no....thats gay, but she knows about my back problems and she said that Yoga might help alot. I told her that Im not going to waste any money and buy a stupid book so she said so why dont you check the internet?

I have no idea what to look for except typing in google "yoga"...does anyone do Yoga, if so, do you like it? Can you recommend any online manuals? Thanks for any help.

There's a "yoga" class at our high school, you can take it once a year as gym... There's always hot chicks in it.

I hear good things, but I have never participated in it. I also think it is one of thse things where you need to believe that it works in order for you to see results. So going in thinking it is "gay" won't get you anywhere....or so I've heard.

I've done Yoga in the past and am looking to get into it again. It's really refreshing, and you use muscles you never knew you had. It might actually help with your back problem.

The first couple of times you really won't be able to do a lot of the stuff, but keep trying and eventually you'll get into a rhythm. Makes you real flexible too

Don't know of any online stuff about it though.

It's not a sport... it's a way of life intended to bring you closer to enlightenment. There are many different types of yoga, and not all involve asanas (postures) - some involve prayer, others meditation etc... Even the type of yoga that s based on physical postures (hatha yoga - bastardised versions of which are being taught in gyms all over the world) is not primarily aimed at improving physical fitness - esentially it is a spiritual practice.

Some tantric yogic traditions involve sex (possibly even buttsekz), and teach you how to have multiple orgasms without ejaculating any semen. Yoga literature claims that the practice of yoga may lead to the development of psychic powers once you reach high levels of mastery as a side efect - however if you practice with the intention of obtaining these abilities you will never reach the level of mastery required. Apparently Kundalini is pretty cool, but you always hear about people who have had mental problems or just tripped out trying to practice it.

PS - I've never tried any form of yogic practice so I can't speak of its effectiveness from personal experience, but have met a lot of trippers who have been really into it. Lately I have been thinking of taking it up tho.

Yeah, every branch of Buddhism seems to have some meditational traditions. The coolest are probably found in the Tibettan branches... However as Yogic meditation is associated with Hinduism - probably the oldest existing religion in the world - and as Buddhism emerged from Hinduism (so to speak), it is likely that most forms of meditation practiced in Buddhist monastaries somehow evolved from Yogic practices.
