Andain can't sing
I finally got to listen to Tiesto @ Arnhem, its a great great set, but when Andain comes on, she can't sing very well, her voice is shaky and all, but it does sound like her. Whats the deal here? Summer calling, beautiful things are great songs, but is it computer altered? ![]()
most live acts can't very well - Iio, Jan Johnson and Marcella Woods have all been crap when I've seen them. Jess from Motorcycle was 'okay' at the NEC, but not amazing
i remember thinking the exact same thing...i kinda sucks when i listen to that set i have to skip all the andain songs (which i normally love) because her voice is just awful
Ever sung in front of a group of people? Get a bit nervous?
Well multiply that by 25,000. Singing in front of a live audience isn't easy, especially a live audience that big directly in front of you.
The other problem is that she is singing over the the vinyl copy, not a dubbed karaoke version, meaning that her original vocals can still be heard. So when she *slightly* misses a note, it sounds horrific because the tones clash (as the difference in pitch between two notes gets closer, the discord becomes worse). Your average pop star, or someone singing the national anthem at the football doesn't have this problem.
Then again, most people just lip-sync anyway....

It sounds very very good
Then again, jan's had some practice with this tune anyways
source of pain?
Dmatrox...where did you find this set to listen to? Was it streamed? Or did you buy it? I'd like to hear it...

did you listen to the jan johnston part? wow.
and about award shows. sometimes they do lip sink, sometimes they dont and you know it because it sounds different.

| Originally posted by Dmatrox sure. lip sinking is just pretending you are singing by moving your lips to the words but not actually singing. |

maybe nervous for a crowd of 30000
Ive heard a liverecording of Mavie Marcos singing 'Make Me' and she sounds like a abused donkey..
but she sing like a god in the studio though
guess thats just the way she is.. (hope she doesnt read this lol shes registred here)
to me it sounded like she mimed the tiesto in concert set ?
voice enhancements :P gabriel and dresden are good with this :P, imnot sying its a bad thing, and also its good to play around with the vocals n sht, and layering themm

nah...
I don't think that excuse really flies...sure there's some butterflies and jitters, but professionals can still pull off some great vocals...
Professionals "never let you see 'em sweat". That's what seperates the best from the mediochre cough* Jan *cough
yeah, but most of them aren't professional 'performing' artists... they're not in bands that put on concerts. They record in studios for EDM productions and attempt to do live PAs for icing on the cake, although they usually sound bad. And, can we really compare any to Jan?
As far as MTV bullshit is concerned... anybody who's dancing as they 'sing' is syncing...
Can someone tell me how to hear this? Have you seen the performance on Tiesto's DVD?
I thought Jan Johnston was awesome in that set; she obviously has perfect pitch whereas the other girls do not.
As others here have mentioned, nerves obviously play a pretty big part. Not having perfect pitch also plays a big part. There are sadly very few professional singers that do have perfect pitch.
It's amazing what studio magic can do for ones voice. It's a shame to hear that Jan Johnson can't sing live....I love her voice
...good point!

| I always wondered if, shall we say, Britney Spears was really that athletic that she could flail like a freak and not lose any breath whilst singing! |
