Best Mitsibushi EVo?
I was talking to my mate the other day about favourite "realistic" (in terms of price) cars. I said that mine was the Mitsibushi Evo VIII. He then went on to say that the Evo V was a better car as it was lighter and more powerful. I don't believe this as I find it difficult to understand why a manufacture would make its homologation car for the WRC heavier and slower than the car three generations before it. Just wondered if anyone knows anything about this and can confirm whether what he is saying is true or not.
don't know too much about the evo's but the galant vr-4 is a pretty bad ass ride as well. you just can't buy it here in the states. there's a guy doning the first evo viii head swap into a v6 galant as we speak though so that should be pretty cool.
M3 will always be the car for me.
which would be faster / quicker??
EVO's only have a 2.0l or something like that dont they??

Evo V

Engine
Type: Turbocharged Inline-4
Displacement: 1997 cc
Horsepower: 276 bhp @ 6500 rpm

Skidpad: .95g
Top Speed: 140 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph: 123 ft
Slalom Speed: 65.8 mph
Well, horsepower is better in the V, but the top speed is better in the Viii... It's a tight one btwn the torque... GSR(6M/T): Total only 3kg heavier with making details parts lighter
RS(5M/T): Even with ACD fitted, Front helical LSD (standard), the overall design is approx.19kg lighter than Evo 7 with manufacture option (ACD etc)
*edit* So no, I don't think the V is lighter than the VIII. Absolutely not. Why would they make a newer version heavier? It doesn't make sense.
Hard to believe I'm a girl eh?

So did you show up your friend?
EVO 4 + EVO 7 are my faves. They're just... so great =D

Though I do have to admit, my fav is the evo 7
My fav's are evo 5, 5.5 and 6.
I've heard the Evo 7 is actually better than the 8... heard the 8 was detuned to bring it over to the States, which I would believe (i.e. well all know detuned versions of car make it over to the States... like the e36 M3... 321HP in Europe, 240 in US!!!!).
Sorry, I don't know the answer to the 8 vs 5 though.

The EVO VIII has been reported to be good but not as good as the previous models, due to it being 1.) Marketed for America and therefore 2.) being a bit less of a raw car with more "creature comforts"
I do believe that many autocar magazines rate the 6 as the best one from point A to point B cross country, as the Tommi Makkinen Edition was indeed the closest you could get to a street legal rally car. It had better suspension, and brakes and i believe it had more than 271 hp, but i'll have to look that up.
The VIII only has a higher top speed due to a slightl different gear ratio. besides, you'd need a straight line for that top speed to be achieved easily. I've never driven an EVO but i have had the pleasure of being in a slightly tuned 350bhp EVO VII, which was rather fast
As far as these car go, at stock, they are not performing to their full potential. The Norris Designs EVO VII has 775 BHP with a top speed of 215mph. The Jun EVO V has 500bhp and is a drifitng monster etc etc.
Its all about mods
