For all those peeps who need to know a clear definition of the different styles of electronica... check this link..
CliCK on the Part That says....
"Because the hallmark of this guide is its plethora of music samples (100!!), I've opted to make a version with much better audio quality (a lot of the hardcore genres demand it). You can view this version here. (13.0mb, stereo sound, requires flash). "
U gotta let it load.. but its worth it.. its fuckin hillarious how this guy describes all the styles..hahahahah

By the way, it's not to be taken too seriously. Altho, He does a good job of describing and giving examples of some genres, he is brutally wrong in his classification of others(like Progressive House, for example). This is just one man's opinion and attempt at humour, so take it with a grain of salt. There are a few things that can be learned from it tho.

Yeah Ishkur's guide is OK, but his taste's are kinda lame (imo). And some of his selections are wrong, (binary finary - 1998 is progressive? I think more epic/uplifting).
This guy Ishkur is a joker he doesnt realy have a feel to music realy most of what he said is trash come on the guy is crazy he sais the song children is for pussys come on that song was a big reson for people to like trance what a dumb ass
just my 2 cents.
He just has to realize that some people have different tastes. Unfortunately, the quote he has on the front page shows his attitude. Kind of makes me sick.
didn't he get that quote off of TA??
i vaguely remember seeing a miss behaviour in here b4

You've got to give him some credit... He seems to like what he calls "Acid Trance", "Hard Acid Trance", "Tribal Trance" and "Tech Trance", and even "Goa Trance" apparently. So he's not a complete loss. It's obvious he appreciates the more complex elements and true roots of trance and dismisses the cheesy poppy clubby stuff. Not bad at all... I must say that I agree with most of his tastes, except that I'm a sucker for a good Epic Trance anthem every now and again.
He seems to like Acid and Funk in his music... hmm, so do I actually.
It seems I have more in common with his tastes than I first thought. He even hails Freeform Hardcore as promosing! I LOVE that shit!!!

and eurodance!!! Don't forget eurodance!!!
*smirk*
Ish.
I've got to give him respect. Its a very useful thing for starters. No need to bash him, since styles are changing all the time...
It's a joke, give the guy a break. Keep up the good work Ishkur.
Read it with me: J-O-K-E
I just don't like builds, breakdowns and anthems.
The rest of trance is okay.
It seems to me that what you people call "uplifting" I call Stadium or Anthem Trance...also known as trite gimmicky ecstasy-high maximising trance, or cookie-cutter pop mctrance. The stuff is so predictable you can set your watch to it. But I've never heard that term before. Uplifting isn't a genre, its an adjective. I'll make a note of it anyway.
And as for progressive house....heh......I won't get into that. It's an oldskool beef, lamenting the way the music was against the way the music is. Just like trance.
Ish.
Well... we all have our own tastes.. and I've got to give some credit to Ishkur to trying to define and categorize the different electronica styles to peoples who dont know... his oppinions on wether he likes them or not are his own.... but at least he did a pretty bang up job on correctly describing each...
Ish, you may want to add another genre, onto the Nu-NrG, Hard House Categorgy, and call it 'Progressive' - just by itself. In Chicago, that's somehow come out on its own, being a blend of the cheesiest hard house, the cheesiest europop, and the cheesiest cheese (just as bad as the cheesiest gabber), sometimes with samples from movies, tv, and, of course, countless references to rolling. It very closely resembles old school rave/hardcore, actually, its basically the same, but is just for the young americans with no access to good music, the next generation.
I think its pure crap, but, it is alive and kicking, and if you're gonna do everything, you've got to include it..
mmmmm...give me some examples...if it sounds distinctly different than what I got for stupid (UK hard) house or NU NRG, I'll see if I can find some room for it.
Speaking of NU NRG: apparently they don't like calling it NU anymore, since its now in its present form almost 5 years old. People have taken to calling it HARD or DARK NRG. I have no idea why, since it is neither.
Ish.
I'll give you samples, just give me 12 hours or so, until i'm out of work...
